Historia
Where Paul of Dune picked up the saga directly after the events of Dune, The Winds of Dune begins after the events of Dune Messiah. Paul has walked off into the sand, blind, and is presumed dead. Jessica and Gurney are on Caladan; Alia is trying to hold the Imperial government together with Duncan; Mohiam is dead at the hands of Stilgar; Irulan is imprisoned. Paul's former friend, Bronso of Ix, now seems to be leading opposition to the House of Atreides.

Seems like most of this should have deen earlier chronologically
Revisado: 03-29-25
Many of the story lines went back and forth in time. Stellar performance by Scott Brick, and great story, just seemed out of order. Like it should have been part of an earlier book. Still very entertaining.

Historia
Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the grandest epics in the annals of imaginative literature. Now Herbert's son, Brian, working with Kevin J. Anderson and using Frank Herbert's own notes, reveals a pivotal epoch in the history of the Dune universe: the Butlerian Jihad, the war that was fought ten thousand years before the events of Dune - the war in which humans wrested their freedom from "thinking machines."

Stellar story, amazing narrator
Revisado: 01-05-25
The narrator’s ability to convey emotion for each character was awesome, and the bouncing between storylines was delivered with fluidity and grace.

Historia
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

This classic deserves better

Amazing creativity of story.
Revisado: 12-28-24
I disliked the multiple voices for the Baron. This made following a bit challenging. Keeping with one voice would have made this performance more fluid and cohesive.

Historia
Leslie Marmon Silko's sublime Ceremony is almost universally considered one of the finest novels ever written by an American Indian. It is the poetic, dreamlike tale of Tayo, a mixed-blood Laguna Pueblo and veteran of World War II. Tormented by shell shock and haunted by memories of his cousin who died in the war, Tayo struggles on his impoverished reservation. After turning to alcohol to ease his pain, he strives for a better understanding of who he is.

Reread after 30 years
Revisado: 01-21-23
This book was my favorite when I first read it as a teenager 35 years ago. I finished rereading it today and realized why. The color vision in Silko’s words painting Ceremony are vivid making it all too easy to imagine the storyline as it plays out. I appreciate the share by Silko in her story.
I appreciate our Native Brothers and Sisters. I am white trying to understand a life they once lived and I have seen, likely struggle to continue living. A life for them today is in stark contrast to most of our white brothers and sisters, and to how it was before whites landed on their shores. I have not known many Native Americans in my life but I feel like they hold many of the keys of knowledge when it comes to living WITH our surroundings instead of overpowering, ruling our surroundings. Keys to a lifestyle that makes more sense to me than how we’re living today. Somehow I’d like to help keep their culture alive. I am grateful for their insight and will seek more. I aim to help, not destroy.

Historia
During a time when most wild animals are experiencing decline in the face of development and climate change, the intrepid mountain lion - also known as a puma, a cougar, and by many other names - has experienced reinvigoration as well as expansion of territory. What makes this cat, the fourth carnivore in the food chain - just ahead of humans - so resilient and resourceful? And what can conservationists and wild life managers learn from them about the web of biodiversity that is in desperate need of protection?

Wondeful adventure, inspiring
Revisado: 06-21-21
I am an avid wildlife appreciator. This book has inspired me to look into many of the organizations that wish to bridge existence between human and beast. I now have added to my bucket list a trip to Patagonia, and glacier national Park. Re-wild… beautiful concept.
