Can we scientifically predict our future? Scientists and pseudo scientists have been pursuing this mystery for hundreds and perhaps thousands of years. But now, astonishing new research is revealing patterns in human behavior previously thought to be purely random. Precise, orderly, predictable patterns.

Great book, low volume recording
Revisado: 04-11-25
Like all Dr Barabasi’s work it is superb. The narration was also excellent but the recording volume was way too low for listening on a walk.

Historia
Central Europe has long been infamous as a region beset by war, a place where empires clashed and world wars began. In The Middle Kingdoms, Martyn Rady offers the definitive history of the region, demonstrating that Central Europe has always been more than merely the fault line between West and East. Even as Central European powers warred with their neighbors, the region developed its own cohesive identity and produced tremendous accomplishments in politics, society, and culture.

Monumental work

Outstanding history book. High quality research (I am Hungarian and could verify its history). The narrator is fantastic. Interesting and animated reading. The pronunciations are as close is one can master in so many languages. I very much enjoy the book even though the amount of information is overwhelming. Thank you.

Historia
We may think of "globalism" as a recent development but its origins date back to the fifteenth century and beyond, when seafarers pioneered routes across the oceans with the objectives of exploration, trade, and profit. These voyages only became possible after certain technical innovations—improvements in ship design, compasses, and mapping—enabled navigation across unprecedented distances.

The book was a great promise but after listening to the monotonous reading for a few hours I was bore by the list of assured and events. The book has no story, just years and historical facts.

Colombo meets telenovella
Revisado: 06-11-24
As at the first version of this series I loved the New England scene. I live in Massachusetts. The story would make a great Colombo episode. I enjoyed that part. But the end morphs into some Brazilian telenovella that was rather …. well, a telenovella. The presentation was superb.

Revisado: 05-05-24
For the first time I read this book years ago. The audio version is perfect. I cannot imagine anyone could read this better than Ms Lowman.
The story reminded me of a hundred years old Hungarian book by Antal Szerb ( Journey by Moonlight).

Historia
In this book, Capa recounts his terrifying journey through the darkest battles of World War II and shares his memories of the men and women of the Allied forces who befriended, amused, and captivated him along the way. His photographs are masterpieces - John G. Morris, Magnum Photos' first executive editor, called Capa "the century's greatest battlefield photographer" - and his writing is by turns riotously funny and deeply moving.

Great war photographer’s diary

As his fellow Hungarian and (amateur) photographer I very much enjoyed the war photographer’s memoir. A first hand account of “being there”. I looked up the photos in my Capa books. They told me more now than before.

Historia
In 1943, as the war against Nazi Germany raged abroad, President Franklin Roosevelt had a critical goal: a face-to-face sit-down with his allies Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill. This first-ever meeting of the Big Three in Tehran, Iran, would decide some of the most crucial strategic details of the war. Yet when the Nazis found out about the meeting, their own secret plan took shape—an assassination plot that would’ve changed history.

Historia
For centuries, works of art have been stolen in countless ways from all over the world, but no one has been quite as successful at it as the master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Carrying out more than two hundred heists over nearly eight years—in museums and cathedrals all over Europe—Breitwieser, along with his girlfriend who worked as his lookout, stole more than three hundred objects, until it all fell apart in spectacular fashion.

Revisado: 08-16-23
More psychology than anything. Well researched, written and presented. I read books about how poorly art museums and private collections are protected. But even well secured museums, like the Gardner in Boston, still can be rubbed.
