Historia
Happy New Year, Magnificent Firebirds! We don’t know what 2025 is going to bring, so we’re starting with a bang—the long awaited deep-dive of Judith Ivory's The Proposition, featuring that rakish rat catcher, that ferret-loving firebrand, the man himself, Mr. Mick Tremore! We’re talking sexual tension so overwhelming it makes a girl cry, horse-faced ladies who bring men to their knees, kissing on omnibuses and legs! All that, and Sarah and Jen disagree heartily on the issue of mustaches, but agree heartily that lionhearted virility is the energy we want this year. Get the book at your...

Loved The Proposition
Revisado: 03-07-25
So good to hear this exceptional book discussed on your podcast. I somehow missed Judith Ivory back in my earlier HR days; came across Proposition a year or so ago and devoured it. Went on to read many of her books after that one but this was her best! Hopefully your review will encourage others to read it.

Historia
In town, they called her "Crazy Widow Dinsmore". But Elly was no stranger to their ridicule - she had been an outsider all her life, growing up in a boarded-up old house under the strict eye of her eccentric grandparents. Now she was all alone, with two little boys to raise, and a third child on the way. Will Parker drifted into Whitney, Georgia, one lazy afternoon in the summer, hoping to put his lonely past behind him. He yearned for the tenderness he had never known, the home he'd never had. All he needed was for someone to give him a chance.

Never Sorrier To See A Book End
Revisado: 12-08-24
My review title says it all. Every moment with the tragic primary and (exceptional) secondary characters felt authentic. From the younger children to the aging spinster Librarian- perhaps especially the Librarian! It’s easy to love them all. Spencer captures you with her words and storytelling: Nothing is rushed, the story and dialogue unfold in great detail and you are along for the journey. Morning Glory is now a favorite; it’s a solid 5 star read and the narration 5 star perfection as well. The author got everything right with this book.

Historia
A captivating woman with blue eyes and big dreams, Emily was engaged to a man whose touch left her aching for something more. Tom, the handsome new man in town, was her father's rival in business, and challenged her heart's destiny with a single, stolen kiss. Whenever they met, sparks flew. Until she showed him how tender she could be, and he showed her how true passion could feel. Until they both realized the importance of taking vows with someone you really, truly love.

Great writing and character development
Revisado: 11-07-24
I enjoyed the story because the writing was skillful and the characters believable. I’ve read other books by Spencer, (The Gamble being my favorite and a 5 star read) Vows fell a little short in comparison. Part of the reason this one received a lower 3.5 rating was due to the length- it felt too long. I was also disappointed in the story itself when main characters, close to the end of the book, began acting out of complete self interest - regardless of the pain inflicted on others. It felt harsh and perhaps the author could have avoided that with a bit of subtlety -or editing. Still, it’s a good book and worth reading and the narrator is excellent!

I Had to read it-
Revisado: 09-04-24
It’s written by Woodiwiss, so - a must read! Similar characters, plot lines and dialogue to Book 1 (The Birmingham Series) exposed the lack of originality. The prose as always is skillful, but it couldn’t overcome the absence of charm and depth we see in her earlier works. All in all, I found the book rather silly and prefer re-reading her historical romances written in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Kathleen Woodiwiss was such a talented author and I will always credit her with instilling my lifelong love of HR.

Did not meet expectations …
Revisado: 08-14-24
I’m a huge fan of this author, but this book lacked substance, character development and storyline… her signature trademarks! I did manage to finish it, largely due to the talent of the Narrator. But it was disappointing coming from as great a talent as Woodiwiss. The good news is she has a host of other books which are worth reading and available on Audible. My favorite: Ashes In The Wind.

Historia
Written at the request of Charles Dickens, North and South is a book about rebellion that poses fundamental questions about the nature of social authority and obedience. Gaskell expertly blends individual feeling with social concern and her heroine, Margaret Hale, is one of the most original creations of Victorian literature. When Margaret Hale's father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience she is forced to leave her comfortable home in the tranquil countryside of Hampshire....

It was good except…
Revisado: 05-05-24
Woodiwiss writes romance like no one else! Detail, character development and storytelling are her trademark. So where did it go wrong for me? Physical beauty and sexual attraction between the MC’s felt unbelievable and there was way too much of it. The honeymoon and other numerous encounters quite graphic, it was uncomfortably like being in the room with the couple! This was well written, I just wish there had been fewer sexual descriptives and more storyline as in her earlier works. Fortunately it did improve in that area as the book progressed. The excellent narration gets 5 stars!

Inspirational Readers Choice Award winner Cathy Marie Hake, CBA best-selling author of Bittersweet,/i>, blends wholesome humor and timeless truth into historical novels that ring with authenticity. Narration was lively, however…
Revisado: 02-02-24
The story just seemed to go on too long. Hero was a preachy, condescending know-it-all who held zero appeal. I liked him Less as the story went along and could not understand the attraction the heroine professed to have for him. Despite that, the writing was actually good and provided a few laugh out loud moments. So it’s basically a 3 star read for me.

Irritating Heroine + Frustrated Hero = An Aggravated Reader
Revisado: 12-14-23
Love Mary Balogh’s writing but I’m sorry to say This book was a disaster start to finish. I could barely finish: it was monotonous, unbelievable, the characters unlikeable, and contained creepy descriptive sex scenes. None of it made sense, I can’t imagine what the author was thinking with such a convoluted storyline. The other two books in the Series were good… however, I strongly recommend skipping this one.
