Historia
By August 1968, the American space program was in danger of failing in its two most important objectives: to land a man on the moon by President Kennedy's end-of-decade deadline and to triumph over the Soviets in space. With its back against the wall, NASA made an almost unimaginable leap: It would scrap its usual methodical approach and risk everything on a sudden launch, sending the first men in history to the moon - in just four months.

Listening was like time traveling to one of the greatest episodes in human technology's history. My heart skipped beats, and I wept tears of joy, much like the astronauts, their families, and those who worked on and watched the mission.

Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. Gripping and educational
Revisado: 02-09-22
This was an emotionally heavy reading experience for me, and I feel that I learned a great deal about the lived experiences of a significant population on which my life has relied. I had to pace myself and take breaks after intense scenes. I'm pleased that I opened my heart to these characters on their journey and am experiencing a greater appreciation of the historical and continuing emotional costs of immigrant laborers in the U.S.

Historia
Renowned neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux digs into the natural history of life on earth to provide a new perspective on the similarities between us and our ancestors in deep time. This pause-resisting survey of the whole of terrestrial evolution sheds new light on how nervous systems evolved in animals, how the brain developed, and what it means to be human. In The Deep History of Ourselves, LeDoux argues that the key to understanding human behavior lies in viewing evolution through the prism of the first living organisms.

What is Western Civilization? According to Professor Noble, it is "much more than human and political geography," encompassing myriad forms of political and institutional structures - from monarchies to participatory republics - and its own traditions of political discourse. It involves choices about who gets to participate in any given society and the ways in which societies have resolved the tension between individual self-interest and the common good.

A great primer course!
Revisado: 07-21-21
Like Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "You must learn to see down the arc of human history." Like Leonardo da Vinci one said, "You must see how everything is connected to everything else." My lifelong love of learning and solving puzzles has lead me to habitually entertain the most elegant solution forms in my mind's eye. I have dedicated my entire life to performing social science experiments in every real life social interaction and on every social media platform available to me to date. My findings are interesting and potentially critical to ensuring the survival and thriving of humanity going forward! Listening to this great course was an immense help to me in my ongoing effort to organize and consolidate many of the pieces of knowledge that many others have dedicated their lives, fortunes, and honor to curate for posterity!

I love this narration!
Revisado: 01-25-21
I like the little mermaid, and I am like the little mermaid. The patriarchy is the system that dictates that women's only path to socioeconomic status and security is through the gauntlet of blows delivered by men's secret societies.
In nature, human females have intrinsic socioeconomic status while the status of individual human males rises and falls according primarily to women's public opinions. The feminine form follows the function of a politician, while the masculine form follows the function of an executive officer. The feminine are gifted strategic planners, while the masculine are gifted tactical planners. The feminine are territorial, which is good for geographically bounded political problem solving. The masculine are gregarious and team oriented, which is good for goal oriented project planning and execution.

Historia
The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is neither a hand-wringing narrative of danger and decline nor a digital fairy tale. Rather, it offers a deeply reasoned and evocative examination of the contests over the next chapter of capitalism that will decide the meaning of information civilization in the 21st century. The stark issue at hand is whether we will be the masters of information and machines or its slaves.

Eye opening and helpful for framing current events
Revisado: 03-28-19
I grew up in an analog world, and I bought my first cell phone when I landed my first job after undergraduate studies. The pace of technology change is swift and accelerating, and at midcareer I feel disoriented in the professional world. This book names some of the new games and shines light on their objectives, major players, and strategies to date. It feels like a good time to discuss the effects of surveillance capitalism on humanity and consider other combinations of objectives and strategies going forward.

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Interesting and useful!
Revisado: 01-31-18
I loved learning more about the evolutionary biology of human mating. I've been chronically single and wondering where all the good guys are. I know lots of great men who I felt no romantic chemistry with and this book offered some insight into why I'm so particular. It's natural!
The language is coarse. I hope the humor rings true enough to the target audience of single men to facilitate learning.
Some of the content strikes me as bizarre, so I plan to investigate their website to learn more. It's challenging to try to separate out which mating factors are relatively ancient and which are relatively recent.
