Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Good historical book
Revisado: 04-29-19
The story was pretty realistic. The performer was a good reader, but the English part was just a bit pompous. I loved the French pronunciations! It was beautiful, and I probably kept reading after the pregnant woman got killed because I wanted to hear more of the French. My husband liked the performer, as we listened to it on a trip.

But other impacts of the war become far more frightening. As death creeps closer to their door, life and morality during wartime grow more complex.

Second part was excellent
Revisado: 01-23-19
The first part gave me unwanted mental pictures, though it was very well written. The second part was excellent. The third part felt like a cop-out at the end. As far as the land and house are concerned, it was very well written. I just felt the the "who done it" part was pretty lame. Left a sour feeling for the book.

Bad Language
Revisado: 01-08-17
Usually, I read these in print, so I can skip over bad language and other things that I don't care to read. Unfortunately, read aloud does not allow me to do this, so I returned the book. I do like the way the author develops strong characters though, and the story lines are usually pretty good, as were the cases with this book.
