In Conversations, Steve Reich thoroughly describes his calculated and incremental development from novice music composer into what New York Times Music Critic Richard Taruskin wrote: “a potent, and…very serious force for change…among the great composers of the century.”

6 Days compared to 3 Days of the Condor

I loved James Grady’s book, 6 Days of the Condor, and the way he built intensity throughout most of the book. It lagged some toward the very end of the book, but that could have been my perspective having seen the movie of 3 Days of the Condor at least a half dozen times. I am a fan of Sydney Pollack’s many movies, but 3 Days of the Condor continues to sit at the top of my list of favorites. I kept picturing Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway in the top roles of the screenplay. I must admit I loved lingering through the three extra days in Grady’s book.

Murder on the Orient Express is very well written. Agatha Christie is at the top of her craft. Dan Stevens was masterful in his delivery of the author’s text, but also the speech patterns and local accents of each individual character’s dialogue throughout the book. To me, Agatha Christie’s ending of the book, was odd. All in all, the mystery was superb!

I loved the story and characters of The McCartney Legacy. This very big book was set up with each recording session written up in a chart in the main body of the text. There were many, many recordings, and reading about them made it hard for me to get through the book. I would have preferred that the same information been displayed in a supplement at the back of the book. All of the information was completely relevant. I did enjoy the book a lot. I will most certainly purchase the remaining texts in the series. The book was extremely ambitious! The story seemed absolutely complete and was read superbly by the reader.

As I often do, I read the book as it was read aloud. It is my favorite way to experience the books in my library. The life Philip Glass has unselfishly shared in his book has given me so much I recognize in my own. If you are a musician, maybe a composer, there is much for you to love in this book. If you have even just heard the name Philip Glass and you are curious, jump aboard. The storyline is terrific and the writing nearly perfect!
