Historia
She had dared turn a cold shoulder to London's prize catch. She was a precocious American upstart who thought beauty, brains, and bravery were enough to conquer London society. Well, he'd show her! Nobody spurned Lord David Manley, the most eligible bachelor in town - not publicly, not privately. He was determined that she'd soon be trembling in his arms, desperately in love with the man she had dared mock. David Manley always got his way, and Miss Molly Maguire presented a challenge he couldn't resist.

Not so good, but it's included with Audible
Revisado: 04-14-21
I like most of M.C.Beaton's work but on this one the British/American accent switching is odd, with the American accents reminding me of Brooklyn-ese in a 1940's comedy. Odd characterizations, like for some reason the heroine is a crack sharpshooter, shooting the flame off a candle, even though she grew up in Brooklyn. As one other reviewer said this might be better read rather than listened to.

I really enjoyed this one. Unlike many Regency novels, this has an actual plot. Plucky heroine, likeable characters, danger, intrigue, unknown villain, and the promise of more adventures to come.

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

Prime Directive: Kill Aliens
Revisado: 01-13-21
Going into this I knew the story was about space wars, but by chapter 11 I just couldn't take the killing any more. On the plus side William Dufris narration is great and there's a tone of levity to the telling of the story. But ultimately their mission is to kill alien civilizations and clear the real estate for human developers.

Historia
Marvellously atmospheric tale of strangers summoned to a grand but neglected villa on the Italian coast. Each of them has been named in a will, but nobody knows their benefactress.... Four very different people are named in a will. Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice by illness; George, an idealistic scientist who cannot face what his skills have created; Marjorie, desperately poor and unable to dislodge her writer’s block; and Lucius, ostensibly in control but whose personal life is in chaos.

Enchanted Villa
Revisado: 10-19-20
I really enjoyed this book. At first I thought I wouldn’t like the characters who were distant and judgmental of one another, but as they’re drawn into the puzzle of “where’s the codicil?” they warm to each other and grow close. As others said it reminded me of “Enchanted April” with the place and their mysterious benefactor working their magic and healing the characters’ wounds from the War and life. The narrator was is also very good.

The Secret Adversary is good, but not the Poirot
Revisado: 12-10-19
Alison Larkin does a great job narrating The Secret Adversary. The narration of the Poirot stories just can't compare with the great versions narrated by Hugh Fraser and David Suchet.

Historia
Thousands of years ago, Earth's terraforming program took to the stars. On the world they called Nod, scientists discovered alien life - but it was their mission to overwrite it with the memory of Earth. Then humanity's great empire fell, and the program's decisions were lost to time. Aeons later, humanity and its new spider allies detected fragmentary radio signals between the stars. They dispatched an exploration vessel, hoping to find cousins from old Earth. But those ancient terraformers woke something on Nod better left undisturbed. And it's been waiting for them.

Imagine an advanced octopus society
Revisado: 11-04-19
The first part of the book started slow for me, and because it goes back and forth in time I kept losing track of which time we were in, but once we got to the second half I was following along. I loved the imagining of what an octopus society would be like, mutable, ruled largely by emotion, where no one is ever completely dead set on an opinion. Just as a scientist gets them to agree, they change their opinions. Inclined to take the world apart to see if there's a clam inside it. I also grew to like the parasitic organism as Dr. Kern comes to understand what it is they're looking for.

Great story, distinctive characters, engaging plot
Revisado: 06-29-19
This is absolutely my favorite Georgette Heyer book so far. It’s a great story with distinctive and enjoyable characters, an engaging plot, light peril and drama, and a healthy dose of humor. The narrator is EXCELLENT. He makes each character’s voice easily identifiable and really brings out the humor in the dialog – especially in the “flight to France” section.
