Historia
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Hard to like the main character
Revisado: 11-26-24
Loved Mae Witman’s narration, but the main character was so very hard to like. And maybe that was the point but I kept hoping to find some redeeming quality by the end. Perhaps that made it more believable but it not nearly as fun to listen to.

Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Romance can be a little complicated when you get sucked into a wormhole. Just ask high school English teacher June Flint. One little solar flare happens and suddenly you find yourself 85 years in the future. Eighty-five years from your dream job. Your ailing mother whose only companion in this world is you. Your favorite stuffed-crust pizza from DeLucia’s on Sunday nights. But when June’s cell phone inexplicably picks up a signal, she’s able to call back to the present—more specifically, four weeks before she accidentally time traveled.

Very entertaining. Great narration, particularly Mikey’s narrator. Listened on a long drive and it had me laughing and smiling the whole way. It’s my second audible recording of Cara Bastone but it won’t be my last.

Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

Not my favorite in the series, but still enjoyable
Revisado: 08-24-18
I love this series and this installment didn’t deter me from that, but definitely not the best of Georgie.
No one can replace Kathleen Kellgren’s narration of this series and these characters, but the selection of a new narrator could have been disastrous...it was not. Ms. Blackborrow did credit to the Story and the characters even if I personally found her Georgie a touch too whiney, newcomers to this series will find the same smart narration that the rest of us have been enjoying for years. Well done!
Look forward to many more.

Historia
The charm of spending the Christmas holidays in South Wales, with its crumbling castles and ancient myths, seems the perfect distraction from the nightmares that have plagued literary agent Lyn Ravenshaw since the loss of her baby five years ago. Instead she meets an emotionally fragile young widow who's convinced that Lyn's recurring dreams have drawn her to Castle Farm for an important purpose - and she's running out of time.

Not her best, but still a beautiful story by Kearsley
Revisado: 11-09-16
I began reading Kearsley with The Winter Sea and have loved every book she's written since. Storytelling is truly her craft and you can tell each one is weaved with love and attention. This was no my favorite book by Kearsley, but it is still a lovely way to spend a few hours. Her characters grab me, and the lighthearted supporting cast balances what could be a dreary storyline. The twists and turn never really develop leaving the climax somewhat anticlimactic. I don't regret the purchase and will be purchasing whatever she puts out next.
Katherine Kellgren is one of my favorite narrators. I get so easily sucked into her voice and often forget I am only listening to one person, she makes each voice so distinctive. That said, this was not her best either. I had to speed up the narration to feel comfortable listening. Too many pauses and lengthy descriptions.
Still, enjoyed the book and think fans of Susanna and Katherine will too, even if this isn't their best showing.

Julia Quinn's books are your favorite treat.
Revisado: 03-31-16
Always worth the wait and nothing else ever quite compares. As always this is a fun, light-hearted read. Sometimes Regency romances tend to have one-dimensional characters, but not from Ms. Quinn. Billie and George are strong, but flawed and charming without being pretentious. This will be one I listen to again.
Rosalyn Landor is perfect and I expect nothing less from her narrations.

The illegitimate daughter of an English lord, Sian Jones abandoned her heritage to live in a stalwart coal-mining community in South Wales. Empowered by their cause, she's engaged to be married to the leader of a revolutionary movement that is bracing itself against the tyranny of English mine owners. Good, but repetitious
Revisado: 01-27-16
It was a good story and I always enjoy her characters, but the love scenes a tad painful and she tends to repeat the same words and phrases over and over again. Rosalyn Landor did a wonderful job of narrating, but I would expect no less. I'd listen to her read the dictionary.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Fascinating, but heart-wrenching in parts
Revisado: 11-05-13
This was an amazing glimpse into nursing care in the 50s. I admired the author's unflinching honesty both of the situations she found herself in and her own character through the trials she experienced.
There were some spots that were so graphically horrid that I had to leave the book for a few days before returning. Again, it was just honestly, but how anyone lived through seeing some of what she saw and heard is beyond my comprehension. I've always had great respect for nurses, but these women were more than nurses, they were heroes and saviors to those they helped.

Wow...way to kill a series.
Revisado: 11-05-13
I've read every one of Rick Riordan's YA books starting with Percy Jackson. I've really enjoyed the Heroes of Olympus series...and then there was this one. It started slow and ended confusing. He took strange turns with characters I've grown to love (his choice, his characters, but really?) all in an effort to...well I'm not sure but some decision came out of nowhere it seems.
The narration was okay, but sometime the narrator seemed to be speaking in the wrong characters voice.
Probably time to end this series and move on. I wasted a credit and over 10 hours on this one.

Historia
With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses.

Meh.Take it or leave it.
Revisado: 11-05-13
I have been an avid NR reader for almost 15 years and have always thought her one of the best in the business at creating characters that you believe in, love and want to fight for by the end of the book. Her last couple of novels, however, have left a bad taste in my mouth. I either just don't care how the story ends or honestly wish the two main characters would break up before the book ends because they have "divorced in 5 years" written all over them.
The story here started off intriguing with melding of generations and powers, and the descriptions of the Irish countryside made me want to book a ticket to Dublin post-haste, but the characters never really developed for me. I know this is a trilogy so at least part of the time you're setting up the story's for the next two characters, but I felt like that's ALL this book was. I found Iona annoying and Boyle lacking in the substance she usually gives her male characters. I'm intrigued by Branna and Finn and really hope the story picks up by the time it gets to their story...if formula holds that is likely to be the last book in the trilogy.
Katherine Kellgren apparently is an acquired taste as I've seen some unkind reviews of her narration. I LOVE her! I think she gives each character a unique voice and I've been introduced to authors I'd never have picked up on my own except I wanted to listen to another book she'd read. Overall, her Irish accents sounded great (American as apple-pie here, so keep that in mind), but her modulation of the American Iona when she got excited was a bit over the top.
I could take it or leave it with this one. If you've never read Nora Roberts I'd recommend starting with a book like Tribute, or The Search. If you like her series I thought the Bride Quartet was a lot of fun, particularly books 1 and 2.
