Historia
The adventures of Laura Ingalls and her family continue as they move from their little house on the banks of Plum Creek to the wilderness of the unsettled Dakota Territory. Here Pa works on the new railroad until he finds a homestead claim that is perfect for their new little house. Laura takes her first train ride as she, her sisters, and their mother come out to live with Pa on the shores of Silver Lake. After a lonely winter in the surveyors' house, Pa puts up the first building in what will soon be a brand-new town on the beautiful shores of Silver Lake.

Still beautiful.
Revisado: 12-06-24
It’s a beautiful book. It was a flawed period of history but this is a window into the day to day struggles of what women’s lives were like growing up in the pioneer era. Strong and brave and resilient.

Calming and realistic
Revisado: 08-31-24
Very clear and beautiful soundscape. Doesn’t sound distorted like other “nature” sounds. Especially calming for my anxious pup!

Historia
Eleven-year-old David is about to meet his new stepsister, Amanda, who is only one year older than he is. Amanda arrives at their big old house wearing a huge tattered shawl and carrying a sharp-eyed crow in a cage. She is hardly what David expects. Before long, she introduces David to a strange world of witchcraft and the occult. At first, spells and potions are fun. He enjoys the spooky chants and smoky seances. Even his younger brother and sisters join in, making sure their parents suspect nothing.

Classic ghost story
Revisado: 08-31-24
Zilpha is a fabulous writer and this family ghost story doesn’t disappoint. Poltergeists, teen angst and a little boy with mysterious powers all happening to a family that could be yours. A great audio book for a family trip.

Another satisfying story
Revisado: 09-10-23
The Detective Varg series is witty, compassionate, funny and philosophical in every story. One can’t help loving each quirky character, even the “criminals”. Each book is a very satisfying reflection of humanity. The narrator’s mellow voice is a perfect match. I must have checked 100 times to see when the next volume would be out. I hope this series will continue!

Exquisite Narration

This narrator is absolutely a genius of voice. She has perfectly captured the essence of Terry Pratchett’s characters. The story is wonderful but the audiobook is spectacular.

Historia
Mary Alice and Grandma Dowdel return for more astonishing, laugh-out-loud adventures when 15-year-old Mary Alice moves in with her spicy grandmother for the year. Her extended visit is filled with moonlit schemes, romances both foiled and founded, and a whole parade of fools made to suffer in unusual (and always hilarious) ways.

Beautiful
Revisado: 03-27-23
All of Richard Peck’s books are brilliantly written, but the Grandma Dowdel series is the shining star of his work. This is one of those series that you won’t want to miss in your lifetime. A snapshot of life during the depression, a hilarious comedy of mischief and a warm embrace that reminds us of loved ones from long ago. Beautiful genius.

Historia
Few people know the name Vesper Quill. To most folks, I’m just a lowly lab rat who designs brewmakers and other household appliances in the research-and-development lab at the powerful Kent Corp. But when I point out a design flaw and a safety hazard in the new line of Kent Corp spaceships, everyone knows who I am—and wants to eliminate me. I might be a seer with a photographic memory, but I don’t see the trouble headed my way until it’s too late. Suddenly, I’m surrounded by enemies and fighting for my life.

Painful voice
Revisado: 02-21-23
The person reading this story has put on a fake twangy hillbilly caricature voice which does not seem to match the fantasy genre of the story. It makes listening to the story difficult. Perhaps the publisher was hoping to lure in a quirky Stephanie Plum-type audience but I can’t imagine it working. I recommend reading the print book over listening to this narrator ruin the story.

Revisado: 04-03-20
Listening to this audiobook is a life changing experience. It is clear that the author has deep connections and the utmost respect for the characters and cultures in her story. This book has solidified Nancy Farmer as one of my favorite authors. And of course, another beautiful narration by Lisette Lecat.
