Superb work. A classic of historical non-fiction

Shirer has the benefit of actually being present to witness the rise and fall of the Third Reich. His narrative voice held my interest throughout this relatively long book. Grover Gardner is one of the best narrators I have heard. His work here and on Shelby Foote's series on the Civil War is outstanding

I am enjoying Nesbo's Harry Hole series. Nesbo is strong in his characterizations and descriptive passages. The narration is perfect for the material. Overall, very well done

Being a criminal and an Irishman myself, I found it interesting. However, not sure how much it would appeal to a general audience

Another Winner for Junger

I read "The Perfect Storm" and " A Death in Belmont" prior to listening to "War". In fact, I've read "Storm" three times over the years. Junger's prose is straightforward and powerful. He lets the images and the stories speak for themselves and does not impart partisanship or rhetoric. In "War", he does not pass judgement on whether the war in Iraq is justified or not. He creates portraits of individual soldiers who form a life and death bond with one another. This is another one of Junger's workds that I will listen to again
