Historia
After some unsettling news brought to them by an unexpected messenger, Prince Edgar fled the Raid Dungeon to hurry back to his kingdom, leaving Derek as the impromptu leader. Being concerned about his people on the outside, Derek chose to rule with an iron fist to finish the dungeon as soon as possible. This choice didn’t make him any friends, but he didn’t need any for it to work.

Derek Hunt, taking a 300 page victory lap.
Revisado: 04-12-25
Probably the least entertaining and/or interesting book in the series, so far. Nothing new really happened in this book. Derek has reached the level of OPness that he doesn’t even try to act like he’s stressed by anything going on around him. The majority of this book is just Derek traveling around and being told how great he is and reveling in his accomplishments.

Historia
Few know the warship’s actual name. But everyone has heard the rumors. The PUV James Keeling can do something no other vessel in existence can do—slip into another dimension, travel undetected, then re-emerge onto our plane and surprise enemy targets. But the thing that makes the Crypt unique also makes it a nightmare for those onboard; interdimensional travel causes hallucinations, violent behavior, and psychotic breakdowns. Keeling could be the Union’s greatest weapon, a game-changing asset that can defeat the bloodthirsty zealots of the Purist Nation, the Union’s mortal enemy.

2.5 stars - Too dark & depressing for me.
Revisado: 04-06-25
This book is an all-you-can-eat buffet of mental illness and military jargon.
It was pretty much all bad. All stress and hallucinations and death and disaster.
There was maybe one person in the book that I could root for. That was the older “raider” who just wants to go out on his own terms. Everyone else in the book were terrible people who could, and often did, die without me feeling bad about it.
In a way, I suppose the author effectively told the story in the way that they wanted to tell it. I do think it was well written. It just wasn’t “for me.”
I doubt that I will read the next one, but there is a small chance.

Historia
Maxwell Carter works a maintenance job at a government research facility. The research lab he works at has an accident, more energy coming through the wormhole than anticipated, enough to completely rupture the shields that were supposed to contain it until they finished determining how to convert the energy into electricity. Previously harmless animals are changed to nightmare threats and people are dying, seemingly due to incidents related directly to their interests.

So… slow…
Revisado: 03-26-25
My biggest complaint is how slowly the narrator speaks. I listened to most of it at 1.5x speed. The rest was 2x. Somewhere in the mid-twenties chapters the audio starts including heavy breathing sounds that drove me INSANE. But, this did eventually go away again.
Regarding the actual story… meh? It’s ok, I guess. I remember thinking a lot of the time that the story just felt made-up as they went along. This means I was constantly broken from my suspension of disbelief.
Also, the MCs relationships with women are all problematic in some way shape or form. Without spoilers, it is hard to elaborate. But I’ll just say that we either get to hear about his abusive ex or about his “unconventional “ choices in partners.

Max was murdered, but now he is mostly over it. Living on earth as a recent college graduate, he can still perfectly recall his past life on Albion, a sword and sorcery world. He'd been hailed as the "Hero of the World" after crawling his way up from poverty, eventually enjoying great fame and luxury. But on mana-starved Earth, he's just a guy.

Good, but could use some more editing
Revisado: 03-23-25
Still a good series, but could use some more editing.
Too many instances where the MC explains why he thinks something then re-explains the same thing in the next chapter. Probably a remnant of it being a web serial, but could be edited out.
Also, the first couple of times in this series that the author did a “shout out” for other authors and/or book series, it was amusing. The times after that became increasingly annoying and immersion breaking.

2.5 stars.
Revisado: 03-18-25
Mediocre at best. The best thing I can say about this is that Magic system was “different,” but definitely could have used some more thought being put into it.
The problems with the writing are legion. Far too many to list here, so I’ll just leave a few off the top of my head.
1. The MC is so proud of how “smart” he is. I can’t think of a single instance in all 3 books where he did anything that I would consider particularly intelligent. And he does many things that are stupid. And many more times is confused/surprised by completely obvious things.
2. He’s a “blacksmith” and yet he does not once, in all 3 books, even touch a hammer. He does touch an “anvil” but it might as well have just been a computer with CAD software installed for how he “used” it. Or even a sketchpad and pencil.
3. It’s a crafting book with no actual crafting. He tells his skill what he wants to make and the skill tells him which things he needs to have to make them magical appear. No tools, no design choices, no innovations, no real sense of progress or accomplishment. “I have 3 leaves and a vine. And now I have armor made out of those things. I’m a blacksmith!” Wtf?!
Finally, the author tried to cram like 6 or 7 books of content into 3 books making it feel like a rushed mess most of the time. But, the ending was just awful. Like he decided he was done with this story and wrapped everything up with a montage. The time skip at the end was longer than the combined total amount of time that passed throughout the 3 books.

A great story. A somewhat rushed ending.
Revisado: 03-13-25
Book 2 ends with “we’re just getting started! Still a lot of story to tell!” Then book 3 was like “just kidding! We wrapped everything up, and this is over.”
That having been said, I did enjoy all 3 books. In fact, I read them all on Kindle unlimited a long time ago and decided to get the Audible version to experience the whole story again.

Too much navel-gazing.
Revisado: 02-23-25
This is the “Empire Strikes Back” installment of the story. Everything has to go wrong for the MC so that when he finally wins it will all feel like a bigger achievement. I get that.
That having been said, I had to listen to the last few hours of the book on 2x speed to be able to tolerate all of the MCs navel-gazing.
For those who haven’t heard the term before:
navel-gazing
noun
Excessive introspection, self-absorption, or concentration on a single issue.

A fun, soft sci-fi.
Revisado: 01-14-25
It was a fun-to-read soft sci-fi book with a golden retriever. What’s not to like? While an obvious self-insert fantasy, it didn’t ruin the story. I’ll definitely read the next one.
The narrator was “ok.” There were a few instances where I had a hard time telling who was speaking because they didn’t Chang their voice to match the new character. I got the impression that they didn’t read ahead and either didn’t notice or didn’t care when the speaker changed and it wasn’t obvious until after the sentence when it would say “so and so said” instead of the previous speaker.

Narrator speaks too slowly for me.
Revisado: 01-10-25
In the past, I’ve only listened to books at 2x speed when I’m bored with them and just want them over faster.
I spent most of this book at 2x speed just to make the words come out at a rate that didn’t put me to sleep. I even cranked it up to 2.5 for a while.
As far as the story goes, I’ve already downloaded the next one on kindle unlimited, but I won’t be getting the audiobook this time.
