I was blown away
- De Brianna Brown en 07-01-15
Jason Alexander surprised me.
Revisado: 02-01-23
I was/am not a fan of the Seinfeld show so I really didn’t know much about Mr. Alexander. What a pleasant surprise to listen to his views and opinions on his faith. I am probably old enough to be his mother, so I would have thought the generation gap would produce very different opinions, but not so. It is comforting to know that the younger generation still carries on and appreciates the values his family taught him.

Top notch
Revisado: 01-25-21
Great story written by someone who has been there and done that. My only suggestion is the Frank talk faster. Fortunately I could increase the speed a notch or two to make the difference.
When I finished this book I decided to watch the movie Feds again. Nice combination.

Historia
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

Long and drawn out

One hour and 40 minutes just to discuss Venezuela. Really? Up to that point I thought there was too much detail but that was the breaking point for me. Halfway through the Venezuela chapter, I totally lost interest and returned the purchase.

Historia
Around noon on January 15, 1919, a group of firefighters were playing cards in Boston's North End when they heard a tremendous crash. It was like, "a roaring surf," one of them said later. Like, "a runaway two-horse team smashing through a fence," said another. A third firefighter jumped up from his chair to look out a window - "Oh my God!" he shouted to the other men, "Run!" A 50-foot-tall steel tank filled with 2.3 million gallons of molasses had just collapsed on Boston's waterfront, disgorging its contents as a 15-foot-high wave of molasses that at its outset traveled at 35 miles an hour.

Excellent accounting of a true story
Revisado: 09-21-16
The author has blended the facts of the case with the human side of the story, not always the case in stories like this. Neither faction is over done nor neglected.
I am a great fan of Boston and visit at least once a year but never knew about this incident. Thank you for a great story.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Excellent story and my favorite narrator, who unfortunately is now gone. Story moves quickly, detailed but not too much.

Historia
In the century's darkest time, one man became the most unlikely of heroes. German-Catholic industrialist and Nazi Party member Oskar Schindler used his wealth and influence to save the lives of more than 1,300 Jews who would have otherwise died in the concentration camp at Plaszow. Here is the story on which Steven Spielberg based his powerful motion picture. If you like this, try Ursula Hegi's Stones from a River.

I would probably rate an unabridged version 5 star. Much was cut in the abridged.

Can we kill the exaggerated character voices ?
Revisado: 08-30-15
They are really annoying, unnecessary, all sound the same and detract from the performance. Other than that, this is a great true crime story, one I had never heard of.
