An insightful new exploration of Sozin’s and Roku’s friendship
Revisado: 10-09-24
The story brings back the fun adventure of the original Kyoshi books with a new kingdom’s politics to consider. This is certainly not the overly political Yang Chen series, and brings more action and sincere interpersonal conflicts. We get to see an avatar that struggles to let go of their home nation and the consequences that it brings. Great new start and I really hope to hear more from Roku. I would love to read about his and Sozin’s conflict over the first earth kingdom fire nation colony.

Gripping Story!
Revisado: 06-29-24
This was an amazing series and it’ll certainly keep you to the end if you have time. The story may have been a bit leading/predictable, but still had me all the way to the end.

Historia
The Empire stands at the brink of total collapse. But they have saved their most heinous plan for last. First a plot is hatched that could destroy the New Republic in a bloodbath of genocide and civil war. Then comes the shocking news that Grand Admiral Thrawn--the most cunning and ruthless warlord in history--has apparently returned from the dead to lead the Empire to a long-prophesied victory.

It’s not Thrawn.
Revisado: 03-10-24
I am a huge thrawn fan and when I heard there was a Thrawn Duology, I was excited for this book. Now I find it’s just someone impersonating Thrawn and some overly ambitious moffs pulling the strings. The story is all over the place with so many plot threads, and yet, there’s no main character to follow. Luke being afraid to use the force is genuinely the most annoying thing about this book besides Thrawn being teased and taken away. Luke has always come off as some sort of godly Jedi from fan videos, yet I see him using the slightest smidge of power, and now he’s scared and would rather die and be saved than use his powers as he should. Only ones in these OG stories that I’ve been intrigued by was Han, Card and Lando. They are fun dynamic characters, while Leia always seems like she’s scared to ruffle feathers, Luke acting like impotent Spider-Man, and Mara just finds herself easily defeated. Leia is one who woulda spit in the face of Tarkin or Vader if she weren’t so polite. They just made her a mother and that’s it in these books, which is disappointing. Luke, he just needs to start being a Jedi that defeated Vader rather than someone who’s afraid of the force. Mara, she’s a bad a** that worked directly for the emperor, and that needs to be shown why. I don’t mean vicious, but like not getting taking out by planet natives. I am mostly upset at the time I wasted waiting for Thrawn to show up. Even if it was in a stupid clone story. When the “to be concluded” came on with not a drop of Thrawn, I just got so mad. I don’t think I can finish the duology given the start. It’s just so bad

Modern Thrawn Character Retained!
Revisado: 02-02-24
I loved having the 2017-Present Thrawn character voice and actions in place for Outbound flight. I just completed the heir to the empire trilogy, and I found Thrawn to be as one dimensional as any villain. I completed that trilogy after the 2017- present books, and it’s night and day character development differences. Heir to the empire, he wants to rule the empire, and that’s essentially it. 2017-present Thrawn cares about others, rules fairly, and knows how to play for the greater good. Most importantly, it always felt as though Heir to the empire Thrawn was losing like villians do, but was able to get everyone on their heels in the last act. 2017-present Thrawn never loses, and it’s captivating victories. That’s the Thrawn you get in this book along with a new perspective on the arrogance of the Jedi prior to revenge of the sith. You even get a little more motive from palp’s perspective of the necessity of the empire. In other words, not just evil to be evil. As a bonus, we get some anakin and obi wan training time together, and you get more building blocks to the perspective anakin has in clone wars and revenge of the sith when it comes to politics and the ways of the Jedi. This was a refreshing and easily integratabtle story that remains loosely canon in my eyes.

Lack of action as there was in Kyoshi
Revisado: 10-31-22
It took awhile to feel on board with the story. There were many character names to remember and locations were difficult to keep track of. It was somewhat interesting to have a deep dive into the complex avatar politics of the 4 nations. If understanding the societal complexities of avatar was something you were looking for, then this is your book! If you were looking for action and adventure, perhaps stick to Kyoshi. I would have enjoyed seeing more of the world explored and perhaps some more interesting bending fighting techniques. There were some, not to spoil, but this is more of a quiet spy movie with some mild conflicts.

Historia
In the war for control of the galaxy between the armies of the dark side and the Republic, former Jedi Master turned ruthless Sith Lord Count Dooku has grown ever more brutal in his tactics. Despite the powers of the Jedi and the military prowess of their clone army, the sheer number of fatalities is taking a terrible toll. And when Dooku orders the massacre of a flotilla of helpless refugees, the Jedi Council feels it has no choice but to take drastic action: targeting the man responsible for so many war atrocities, Count Dooku himself.

Amazing clone wars insight
Revisado: 06-10-22
I loved this audiobook by the end. It was a bit too lovey dovey for my taste and the narrator exaggerated voice when explaining certain portions of the story were a bit annoying. Given that though, the love plays heavily into the feelings you have towards the end of the book and it made for an all around great story to have been told. Definitely a Star Wars classic.

Historia
It's kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object that will enable the Sith to conquer the galaxy.

Felt like it was missing part of the ending
Revisado: 05-11-22
No need to discuss specifics. The story is captivating and full of sprung realistic action. It didn’t even feel like 14 hours once it was done. I just felt the ending didn’t tie up some loose ends and didn’t leave much for the imagination in what was to come next. That’s to say, there is no indication of where this story might lead into within the Lucas film storyline. Otherwise, an incredible and gruesome book with hints of the Darth Plageis novel. These books will always outdo the Disney timelines with their continuity and realistic horrors the galaxy has to offer. Shame there won’t be books to cover this amazing universe.
