Like eating cold McDonald’s fries. Not bad, wish it was better.

I liked the main character, Lincoln, and the general story. The other characters are a bit insufferable. Beth comes off as a mean, insecure person. Maybe it’s just a dated story, though. Lincoln’s mom was a nightmare and gave me anxiety to listen to, and it’s uncomfortable that her behavior is just seen as quirky and not borderline abusive.

It was fine to listen to in the background though, the performance is great and the story itself had me mildly entertained.

It’s hard to describe a story on a tragedy “beautiful”, but that was my impression upon finishing it. The level of respect the author has for all the victims is felt, and his anger at the injustices helps lift the voices of those who have suffered. It’s an honor being able to hear the strength in the survivors, from children, to parents, to priests.
It’s also an important lesson. NEVER think “this will never happen to me” and ignore common sense. It is always better being safe than sorry and being prepared to face an emergency. Especially if you are supposed to be keeping children safe.

He details the physical things that happened regarding the tragedy, how people reacted, and the emotions people have/had in regards to it. The reader is thrown into the water that day, into the yellow hat of an elementary school child, or into the mud covered shoes of a mother desperately looking for any sign of her child. You are there in the moment desperately hoping they are able to succeed.

It’s not someone “spooky story” you might hear on YouTube with dramatized voice and music. The ghosts aren’t a Halloween attraction. They are the real grief and pain left over from the tragedy. It’s hard not to cry for these people doing whatever they can to live another day with the guilt of being alive.

I definitely recommend. It’s very validating and the doctor himself has adhd so he speaks from his own experiences.

I struggle like she has, from abusive and neglectful parents and every day is a fight to take what I deserve for my future. Reading it has given me so much validation and so much hope that no matter what I’ll be able to be a survivor rather than a victim so long as I keep fighting for the future I deserve.
Read this if you or someone you know is a survivor of abusive parents.

It’s a story about the strength of a little girl fighting to survive. Not all mothers love their children, so we should all remember that and keep an eye out for the innocents around us so that they can know love before their abusers fully steal their innocence away.

Wonderful book that has opened my eyes up to what exactly feels wrong about certain relationships and how severe things like breaking items or verbal abuse really are.

I can’t believe I listened to this whole thing hoping it would get better. Bad research on psychology, but I guess it didn’t even matter by the end. Wish I got my time back.

The story itself was okay, but whenever King inserts forced politics into his books that’s usually the worst part.
At least Glen Bateman’s sociology lectures in The Stand were somewhat relevant, but the random comments made in this book were disjointed and took me out of the story.
It felt like he got bored writing it at the end, too.
The reader was fantastic.

She is now my favorite audiobook reader, she has given so much life to each character, when I think about the book I can’t stop hearing her voice tied to it.
