I'm a huge fan of both Peter Clines and Ray Porter. But, in this case, they've taken it to the next level! Time travel is hard to pull off but Clines navigates the pitfalls effortlessly! The story is well paced and intricate, and grabbed me from chapter one. Porter's narration brings the entire thing to life. His handling of the dialogue makes you feel like you're listening to an actual conversation. There are a lot of dynamic elements to this story and Porter makes you feel every twist, turn, and slide! This is battling 14 for a place as my #1 Peter Clines novel!

I seldom give 5 stars to a book because I always seem to find a small thing or two that I think it could be better. This book though, was perfection! From beginning to end, it kept me engaged and hooked on each detail.
The narration was on point! Nicole delivered it all with just the right emotion in all the right places.
What I liked the most about this series is that the relationships aren't forced. Some things went unexplained but with a series it's hardly something to be upset about. I chuck it up to foreshadowing and something to look forward to in the next book(s).
Overall, the story and performance was in perfect harmony. 5 stars indeed!

Must read the first books in the Mageri series before enjoying this gem! Although it is a standalone, there are lots of spoilers, if you intend to listen to the series (and I highly recommend that!).
Nicole is fabulous and her rendition of Simon is as spectacular as I thought it would be.
For almost 5 years I've waited for this book and was not disappointed. Simon is delicious, sassy, compassionate, and of an intelligence that makes me tingle all over. Smart is so damn sexy!!
Anyway, moving on... (Sorry, thinking of Simon makes me distracted!) Risk was the most anticipated story since Shine, the last Mageri Series book. Some parts of Risk got intense and serious, but never lingering on the painful parts of Simon's life. There were plenty of his known and adored cheeky humor, fun and flirtatious bits to keep me salivating all the way throughout the story.
Ella was amazing! I fell in love with her right away and marveled at how stunningly beautiful she was created and developed. A true fighter and wonderful match for our beloved sexy British lover. Great read indeed!
But if you are looking to truly appreciate all that comes with this sexy beast of a man, you must check out Sterling. He is in incredible delicious form there. His introduction is marked as one of the highlight moments of the entire series, in my opinion.

Closer Than You Think Audiolibro Por Karen Rose arte de portada

* This book is #1 in Karen Rose's "Cincinnati" series.
***This is a NO SPOILERS review.

Listened to it, loved it, and as soon as it was over I HAD to listen to it again. It was that good. Even at a second listen the story was just as exhilarating as the first time.
Let me tell you, I'm not typically a repeat reader. There are very few Authors whose books I revisit, in fact there is only one other aside from this Author whose book I actually reached "the end" and flipped right back to the beginning, but Closer Than You Think warranted an immediate re-read, and let me tell you something else: this book is 28 hours long! I just couldn't believe I was so stoked after such a long book. My attention span is short and to keep me engaged that long is impressive!

Something that I thought was absolutely brilliant was the time tracking in the book. Sometimes I wonder how long it passes between certain parts in the stories that I read, and Karen Rose solved that in the most perfect way, making me feel like I was IN the story. She set the timing and place where the scenes are occurring so it felt like I was right there with the characters. What enhanced the "all-immersed" feeling, was the exhaustion. Like Deacon, detective Bishop, and Faith, I too couldn't sleep while all that was going on in the story. I remember thinking "my gosh, I haven't slept a wink in almost 24 hours. This book is holding me hostage!".
But here we are, I reached the end again and immediately missed them all. I wanted more of Deacon Novak, He is SUCH a great hero and his imperfections make him so perfect! Faith as a main character also didn't disappoint. She is not the typical damsel in distress, nor does she act like those "to-be-rescued" women who we tend to roll our eyes at when they make silly decisions. She is very smart, interesting, strong, and so likable.

Since the version I got was the audiobook, I want to mention the narrator. She did a good job with the performance. I think she captured Faith's personality very well, and the sultry sexy scenes were on point. But there wasn't much distinction between the character voices. Kind of got me a little confused if I stopped the book for a moment or two. Overall a passable performance though, I would give the narrator 3 stars out of 5.
As a whole, I truly enjoyed the mystery and found the romance part of the story to be hot, well balanced and exciting. I had never read anything by this Author before but I confess I had a hard time letting go of the characters. 4.5 stars!

Moving! That's the kind of story Secret Sister is.
I want to tell you Why I avoided picking up this book at first - the cover. It looked as if it would be a love triangle story, which is a premise I dislike on principle and don't find any appeal on. The blurb didn't do much to contradict the impression of the cover, BUT reading the blurb AFTER finishing the book it really made it for a brilliant summation without giving away the plot.
At any rate, I took a chance because this book was gifted to me without any expectations and a friend told me it was NOT a love triangle story. I am SO glad that I did give it a shot!

So here we are. It's been 5 days since I finished the read and only now I couldn't bring myself to write the review for fear I wouldn't do it justice. I really had to process how I felt and get my emotions in check, which brings me to this point: if you are in a mood for a story that will make you really FEEL as if you are transported into the pages, this is it! Read it and be ready for a ride like no other. This whole book consumed me. Chewed my heart and spit it out!
The writing is vivid and intense, the narrator held nothing back! She performed it brilliantly and brought the characters to life in a way that made me really feel like I knew them on a personal level. I felt for them, grieved with them, I loved with them. God! how does a person tell a story like this? Creating magic and new lives with words; having them invade my own life and change my heart more than I ever thought possible.
Cathy is the woman I want to be, Nick is a man every woman wants their man to be like, Bradley and Dr. Seth are the friends we all wish we were lucky enough to have in our lives, and Roxanne is a woman that makes you really think about how little our exteriors mean when we constantly battle with who we are.
Give it a try. If you like emotional stories you won't be sorry.

The narrator is making it very difficult to get into the story. All the characters sound the same, and it's distracting to hear a guy sounding like a woman. I'm giving this a shot because I've been a long time JG fan, but I might just give up if the story doesn't get any better. Right now it's down right painful (I'm on chapter 7). Will update this review after I finish the listen.

I was introduced to Peter Clines through his title "14". It was so good, I figured I would see what else he had to offer and was disappointed when I found the "Ex-Heroes" series. Heroes fighting Zombies? How could two things so cliche and so different from "14" be any good at all? So I passed on "Ex-Heroes" and moved on to other things. Then, along came "The Fold," and that was also amazing. So I figured I would give "Ex-Heores" a shot and, S.H.A.Z.A.M!

Ex-Heroes is like listening to a summer block buster. The characters are familiar super hero archetypes but done in a way that, in my opinion, makes them feel fresh. The dialogue is tight, the story is well paced, and the narration brings everything to life. By the time the ride was over, I was hooked. I have since gone on to devour the rest of this series like a Zombie on a Sumo Wrestler! I am updating my review of Ex-Heroes from 4 to 5 stars. Peter Clines I am so very sorry. I will never doubt you again.

This one is the best one so far. A lot of answers and a lot of excitement.
The author really did an amazing job developing the character and giving you just enough info to keep you wanting for more. The narrator really is right on par with the accents and nuances of each character. 5 stars all the way to this one too!

After listening to Sterling I had to get the next one in the series. It did not disappoint! the new character introduced was raw, intense, and very exciting. I was on the edge of my seat until the very end and listened to the whole thing in a day.
