Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

A mystery right to the last
Revisado: 02-15-18
I couldn't stop listening. Even though the book lurches from scene to scene, it never lost me. There is good character development and ongoing mystery. A real "who done it" through the eyes of an agoaphobic woman.

This book features the most annoying family ever, except for husband. In spite of his faults, he is only sympathetic character in the story. The story almost gave me a panic attack it is so maddening. Can't say any more. It's just dumb.

Historia
The Irish-American story, with all its twists and triumphs, is told through the improbable life of one man. A dashing young orator during the Great Famine of the 1840s, in which a million of his Irish countrymen died, Thomas Francis Meagher led a failed uprising against British rule, for which he was banished to a Tasmanian prison colony. He escaped and six months later was heralded in the streets of New York - the revolutionary hero, back from the dead, at the dawn of the great Irish immigration to America.

A True Hero
Revisado: 02-28-17
The author and narrator really lay bare the cruelty of the English to what they considered drunken peasants in Ireland. They literally starved them. Many rose up in protest, but Thomas Francis Meagher was one of the greatest. His story, from Ireland to Tasmania then to America, is beautifully spelled out by author and narrator. A must read for any lover of Ireland or American History
