Historia
Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

Geared towards those just starting in sci-fi for the most part.

If you’ve read or watched sci-fi as a fan for more than a few years most of the concepts gone over in this course will be old hat. However, the theory of black holes essentially dripping into new universes was new to me, so there might still be something new for you even if you’ve already read/watched quite a bit of sci-fi. The speaker was also engaging and used good examples.

Historia
Dmitri Shostakovich is without a doubt one of the central composers of the 20th century. Drawing on both the flood of declassified documents from the Soviet Union that began in 1991 and Shostakovich's own extraordinarily frank posthumous reminiscences, Professor Greenberg shows how Shostakovich, who, in the words of a friend, "did not want to rot in a prison or a graveyard" was still unwilling to become a docile instrument of the Soviet regime.

Superb Course: Greenberg on Speed
- De Chris Reich en 12-23-13
Good biography, but too much a rationalizer of Shostakovich's failings.
Revisado: 04-01-18
Perhaps as a biographer of a subject one is tempted to being an advocate. However, I found it a little jarring that the author would not extend the same understanding of the political compromises Shostakovich made to other artists who found themselves under similar pressure.
I don't mean to sound negative. I usually rate Greenberg's courses 5 stars, but the difference in his treatment of Shostakovich compared to other artists in the Soviet Union is noticeable. Still, this is a very good and enjoyable course.

Historia
Grammar! For many of us, the word triggers memories of finger-wagging schoolteachers, and of wrestling with the ambiguous and complicated rules of using formal language. But what is grammar? In fact, it's the integral basis of how we speak and write. As such, a refined awareness of grammar opens a world of possibilities for both your pleasure in the English language and your skill in using it, in both speech and the written word.

Very wishy-washy for being a "boot camp".
Revisado: 03-27-18
More of a philosophy and introspection on grammar than an instruction. Would've rated the course higher if it was better presented as such.
