Cliché
Revisado: 05-31-24
Cliché from the initial meeting to the predictable end. Of course on first meeting the love interests are inexplicably adversarial and fill the story with tedious back & forth unfunny sarcastic skirmishes, then fall in love and live happily ever after. The story includes a standard issue nemesis trying to get her hooks into that man, and a supporting cast of wise friends who set the woman straight.

All her life, Andie Mitchell had eaten lustily and mindlessly. Food was her babysitter, her best friend, her confidant, and it provided a refuge from her fractured family. Meh
Revisado: 12-10-20
I was enjoying this book, but the author's narration became tedious. The writing was too heavy with over the top adjectives and adverbs and "very very" and "love love" exclamations. Her exaggerated, overly expressive inflection, and drawing out of words was too much. also she metamorphosed from being a sympathetic character to self absorbed, throwing out tired cliches.

This really was a captivating story, it's just that the narrator didn't bother to pronounce Spanish words like metate and jaguar correctly and it was annoying.

Cringeworthy formulaic rom. novel w/ some mystery
Revisado: 12-05-19
I got suckered in because I wanted to find out the mystery. The writing though was so harlequin romance cliched and hackneyed, it was painful. The standard antagonistic pair: the rugged, strong silent type man and the feisty woman who challenges him, but also succumbs to his will. OMG how many times can a man catch a woman by her arm and gaze deeply into her eyes in one story. Blech.

You have a fulfilling job, a great group of friends, the perfect apartment, and no shortage of dates. So what if you haven’t found The One just yet? Surely he’ll come along, right? But what if he doesn’t? Or even worse, what if he already has, but you just didn’t realize it? Lori Gottlieb said the unthinkable in her March 2008 article in The Atlantic: Maybe she, and single women everywhere, needed to stop chasing Prince Charming and instead go for Mr. Good Enough.
