Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

my mistake
Revisado: 03-11-25
I mistakenly thought this was a time management/ productivity book. I should have looked closer. it's the exact opposite. I should have ONLY read the Afterward, which had 10 viable tips. the rest basically said don't even bother trying to get things done. go enjoy life.

Historia
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

just too long and too deep
Revisado: 08-31-24
tries to create this elaborate world and just goes too broad and deep. really not worth the effort from author and time investment from reader imo. if 25-40% of the misc 'world' info and depth if explanation was cut it would have felt much more engaging and I'd want to listen to next one, but I've invested too much time already and not willing to sink more into this story.

definitely worth a credit
Revisado: 04-19-21
I really liked book 1 and after that,, it was still mostly good and a couple great parts, but overall very much worth the time to listen. FYI in chapters; there are well over 100 and the last one called 'end credits' is a whole book at about 6 hours. good listen.

Historia
In this witty, often terrifying work of cultural criticism, Postman chronicles our transformation into a Technopoly: a society that no longer merely uses technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it. According to Postman, technology is rapidly gaining sovereignty over social institutions and national life to become self-justifying, self-perpetuating, and omnipresent. He warns that this will have radical consequences for the meanings of politics, art, religion, family, education, and more.

Historia
Air Force pilot Captain Carlyle "Smitty" Harris was shot down over Vietnam on April 4, 1965 and taken to the infamous Hoa Lo prison—nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton." For the next eight years, Smitty and hundreds of other American POWs—including John McCain and George "Bud" Day—suffered torture, solitary confinement, and unimaginable abuse. It was there Smitty covertly taught the Tap Code—an old, long-unused World War II method of communication—to many POWs. In turn, they taught others, and it quickly became a way for POWs to communicate without their captors' knowledge.

Historia
Fresh off their victory over Graves and his followers, Marcus and his friends have managed to enjoy a few weeks of relative calm and peace as they continue to build Aldford, preparing the town for a new wave of settlers coming from Eberia. But as the days wear on with no new arrivals in sight, they begin to fear the worse, eventually setting out to search for their promised reinforcements and soon realizing that they weren’t as alone on the frontier as they thought they were.

Revisado: 05-24-20
I preferred to listen to this after book 1 as it continues that original story. book 2 is a separate cast that occurs at the same time as book 1, but I'm happier reading it 3rd.

Historia
Lazarus Cain is a member of the Grim Shadows, one of the Thieves Guilds in the city of Eberia. Unfortunately, Lazarus is having a bad day. Waking up in a torture chamber, suffering from amnesia, he'd be pretty much screwed if not for the mysterious, magical sigil burned into his chest. Sometimes a really bad day should be shared with others, especially professional torturers.

was not a 'book 2 in series'
Revisado: 05-11-20
i preferred reading this AFTER book 3. I was disappointed to buy this expecting a continuation of book 1 in the series. book 2 was lacking much context of ascend online with very little reference to it taking place within the same online game as book 1; not even a mention of characters or events from book 1. at first I thought eventually this new story would meet up with the original story and carry on together, but it never happened and therefore did not meet my expectations for the series. I wish I had read other reviews in this regard rather than eagerly buying this after enjoying the first. book 3 ( legacy of the fallen) is the continuation of book 1. book 2 (hell to pay) should have been labeled book 1.5 or something. anyway, after completing this book I read book 3 and enjoyed it. then I went back to reread this one and it's a great book on its own. it's fine to read this one 3rd (after book 3) even though book 2 characters enter book 3. you don't really need their back story to enjoy book 3. bottom line; read in this order...1,3,2.

Historia
Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.
