This has to be one of the most influential books I've ever read. It has radically changed the way I see interpersonal relationship not just in the sexual marketplace, but in general. While every word the author said made perfect sense, I found this book to be jam-packed with thought-provoking information and often jaw-dropping insight. While much of this content is highly theoretical, it equips the reader with the necessary tools to succeed in their interpersonal relationships.

It is also worth adding that for much of my life I saw myself as a (male) proponent of feminism and egalitarian relationship structures and this book has fundamentally challenged my beliefs.

I cannot overstate it: this book is exceptional. The author also does an incredible job delivering his views in audio format.

For context, I'm a 35-year-old guy who recently divorced his first and only ever girlfriend, so I'm definitely the right target audience for this book.

I'll be honest: when I got this book, I was a little self-conscious about someone (family, friends) spotting it in my Audible library. Sadly, there is a lot of "pick up" advice out there and most of it is cringe-worthy.

This book is different. I actually feel that at its core, this book is about helping you become a better version of yourself and as a side effect, you should become an attractive partner.

If I had to describe this book in 3 terms, then I would settle for the following:
- Non-neediness: you probably feel that you knew that, but there is a lot of depth to non-neediness
- Polarisation: this is about pushing people towards either liking or disliking you -- this is the biggest problem for me, personally
- Vulnerability: this is about opening up yourself to others and allowing them to drop their guard in your presence

I'd also like to add that this book is exceptionally funny in places. There were also moments when I felt like the book was either describing me or it was reading my mind. I remember thinking to myself "I'll need to read it again" just before the narrator said something along the lines of "a lot of men delay taking action and instead choose to intellectualise the pursuit of women, thinking that they need to study them first" -- that was a face-palm moment!

The most important book you'll read in your life

I've struggled with anxiety and panic attacks for years and I thought this book might offer some relief. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but it turned out to be profoundly useful. So useful, in fact, that I believe absolutely everyone could improve their lives by going over this book, you don't have to have a problem with anxiety.

I think the most important message of this book is that "we feel how we think and since we can largely control our thought process, we can control how we feel". This book will help you deal with unhelpful thought patterns that are holding you back and it will also allow you to see your anxiety as a useful asset rather than unwanted baggage -- this actually surprised me a lot.

Even though this is indeed the most important book that I've ever read, I do have some criticisms too. First, I'm not sure if audio format is ideal for this content. This isn't a book that you'd go through passively, you actually need to do the exercises. Trust me, this will make a major difference. I did not initially start doing the exercises, I thought I can do it all in my head, but when I actually started writing things down, I had major breakthrough moments. Since then I spent a lot of time workshopping my own mental problems and I made a lot of progress in dealing with issues that have been tormenting me for years.

My second criticism is that this book isn't great at handling symptoms of anxiety. Sure, it talks about the techniques that make your anxiety disappear, but in practice I felt like it was incomplete. Fortunately, there is another excellent book that deals specifically with anxiety symptoms, it's called the DARE Response by Barry McDonagh, so if you are having a rough time with anxiety, I recommend reading the DARE Response first and then this book.

Lastly, if you've read "Feeling Good" or "Feeling Great", you might find that there is a lot of overlapping content.

I married when I was young and now that I'm going through a divorce, I have no idea what singlehood is all about. To be honest, I was afraid of being alone, but this book changed my outlook. I'm not afraid to be single now, in fact, I feel like I should use this precious time wisely!

Single On Purpose is packed with wisdom and humour. The author is incredibly funny and relatable. When I was reading this book, I felt like I was listening to a close friend.

Whether you are single or in a relationship, whether you are old or young, I'm sure that you will find this book profoundly moving like I did.

Enjoy it!

Like you, I wish I didn't have to read this book. But here we are.

Traver comes across as a good friend who has suffered through the exact trauma that we are going through. He funny, personable, relatable and inspiring.

I'm a bit divided on the idea of separating the book into days. On the one hand, I loved it because every day I felt like I had a short message from Traver to look forward to. But on the other hand, I wanted to read more of this book in one sitting. I ended up listening to a chapter (day) each day for the first month and then I read the rest of the book. I'll probably reread it again soon.

In short, if you are a man going through a divorce, then this book has a lot to offer.

I'm an introvert who for many years lived like a nomad, moving from country to country. Making friends has always been challenging and I felt this book could help me. Did it? I don't think so, but it is still worth considering.

So why did I not find this book particularly helpful? Because I don't think that I'm the right audience. I would describe myself as a functional introvert who can blend into society, who can speak comfortably at a public event, who is aware of social cues, etc. But I struggle opening up a conversation with a stranger at a gym. I get startled when a stranger approaches me with a question. I'm having difficulties joining a circle of strangers at a party where I don't know anyone. This book offered some tips for such situations but I feel like such situations weren't the main focus of this book. I feel that what I need is (1) opportunities where I can talk to new people and (2) courage to talk to people without the fear of looking silly from time to time, (3) assertiveness practice, (4) resist the urge to go with an automatic answer like "sorry" or "sure" when someone initiates contact with me. I think there are a lot of people like me out there, what makes me different is the fact that I've lived my life moving around without establishing a core circle of friends.

Having said all that, I think this book is valuable for anyone who always feels out of place and feels like they lack understanding of social cues. If you are not sure if this book is for you, then I recommend buying it anyway, it is not much of an investment. One recommendation that I'd like to make to the author is to add a section on maintaining and developing long-term friendships, this could include things like noting down people's birthdays and sending them a postcard from time to time, etc.

I liked the general idea behind this book and I thought that it was entertaining to read. However, I felt that the main problem that the protagonist of this story was trying to solve was sloppy. It was not well thought through and I feel that even the author didn’t quite understand it

This book is an introduction to Adlerian psychology or philosophy. It is presented as a conversation between a teacher and a student, which I think is an appropriate format considering that many of its concepts are counter-intuitive and the student asks questions that most readers will probably have in their minds. I'm a big fan of the stoic philosophy and I feel that Adler's ideas are closely related although less complete and less refined than those of most stoic thinkers.

As the title says, this book is worth reading. I think it presents some great points that the general population should consider.

I do have some criticisms, however. I think the author spent a little too much time highlighting absurdities from the fringes, such as maths being elitist and 2+2 not being 4. I think it only weakens the position of the book rather than reinforces it. I also think the book was a little too long, the author could have delivered his points in half the time/length. I wish that instead of talking about relevant world events (some of which may be as minor as a tweet posted by someone semi-famous), the author spent more time discussing the implications of the anti-western movement, which he covers excellently, I just wish he spent a greater proportion of the book on such discussions.
