Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Powerful
Revisado: 03-13-24
What a life and what an artful telling. I didn’t remember buying this one and was not committed to listening to the whole thing but was quickly absorbed by it.

Historia
The eccentric millionaire Robert “Bobby” Ayers has disappeared again, this time alone on his 60-foot luxury sailboat. Behind him he leaves the wreckage of a controversial life - three ex-wives, angry creditors, and the shadow of a murder in his past. He travels the endless expanse of the Pacific cloaked in stealth, only to meet his future there in the form of a young woman more mysterious than he is.

Three and counting
Revisado: 01-01-21
I’ve read (listened) to Rarotonga three times now. I love this book. The setting involves sailing - single handed sailing, and the author speaks with obvious authority from that perspective, but the story is really about people; individual people and relationships between people. The plot keeps you wondering, even after the first read - at least in my case. I sent this to my cousin who is an adventurer and skilled blue-water sailor, but I would recommend this to anyone who loves adventure and wonders about the workings of our own minds. Two thumbs up.
