And absconding from a mission via a besieged building doesn't look good. But when her escape route home goes up in flames, what's a spy to do? extreme violence - could have been a great story
Revisado: 08-11-24
I tried really hard to finish this book, but someone twisting a broken bone that was protruding from an arm, just to torture? A mangled corpse of an innocent woman nailed to a wall rotting after days of horrific torture? this is just the start. C'mon story teller. Do better. or is this just what it takes to sell books in a world that (apparently) delights in listening to gory details of extreme suffering? We Readers need to do better.

Historia
Modern women - who use psychotherapeutic antidepressants at a rate never before seen in history - need liberating now more than ever. The truth is, feminists don't know what liberation is. They have led us into a very boring dead end. Once those fictionalized stereotypes are out of the way - whether they're things that make you gag or things you think look pretty fun - Christians can focus on real women. What did God make real women for?

Revisado: 01-18-23
I see some are dismissing books 3 and 4 as lackluster or inferior. I could not disagree more! Each book in the series builds on the tensions and deep character development of prior books. In addition to intriguing plots and twists - brilliant settings with lush descriptions continue to reel the listener in. As good as anything Sir Arthur Conan Doyle could have penned. Hope that's not heretical! I applaud Ms. Thomas and her brilliant team! Long live the adventures of Charlotte Holmes!

December 1965. ‘Tis the season once again in the cozy Irish village of Ballybucklebo, which means that Doctor Fingal Flahertie O’Reilly, his young colleague Barry Laverty, and their assorted friends, neighbors, and patients are enjoying all their favorite holiday traditions: caroling, trimming the tree, finding the perfects gifts for their near and dear ones, and anticipating a proper Yuletide feast complete with roast turkey and chestnut stuffing. There’s even the promise of snow in the air, raising the prospect of a white Christmas.

Barry Laverty, M.B., can barely find the village of Ballybucklebo on a map when he first sets out to seek gainful employment there, but already he knows that there is nowhere he would rather live than in the emerald hills and dales of Northern Ireland. The proud owner of a spanking-new medical degree and little else in the way of worldly possessions, Barry jumps at the chance to secure a position as an assistant in a small rural practice. At least until he meets Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly.

Gentle and Endearing Story
Revisado: 02-07-22
I listen to books on my two plus mile walk each day. This was the perfect book and I'm looking forward to the rest in the series. I'm already in love with doctors O'Reilly and Laverty as they thrive and survive in their small village. Personally I get tired of trauma porn and romance genres. this book was engaging, the characters colorful and well developed, and an ongoing story you can truly become vested in. Downloading the next book in the series!

Historia
Christianity isn’t about following rules, it’s about a relationship. The rise in popularity of this phrase coincides with a growing disinterest and misunderstanding regarding the role of God’s life-giving, perfect law in the Christian life. Rather than the source of joy it was intended to be, the law is viewed as an angry god’s restrictions for a rebellious people.

feeling convicted
Revisado: 10-04-21
My daughter has been recommending Jen Wilkin for some time. This book was a great Audible listen. As a life-long Christian I was feeling pretty smug about my understanding of and adherence to the Ten Commandments. Jen's analysis brought some real eye-openers to me. Thankfully "sanctification is an ongoing process" and a loving yet just God gives me a new day everyday to seek to be more like Christ. Thanks Jen!

Historia
No matter what was happening in Jennifer Weiner's life - whether good, bad, or very, very ugly - her mother, Fran, would say the same thing: It's all material. Now the number-one New York Times best-selling author and "one of the biggest names in popular fiction" ( USA Today), beloved on Twitter and hailed as "an unlikely feminist enforcer" ( The New Yorker), takes the raw stuff of her personal life and spins it into a collection of personal essays as uproariously funny and heartfelt as the best of Tina Fey and Nora Ephron.

My favourite Jennifer Weiner book so far!
Revisado: 05-18-21
It's probably odd when you like one of your favourite authors' memoir best of all her great fiction you've read so far. That's probably my fault as sometimes I think works of fiction have to try too hard in today's marketplace to create the sufficient drama of a 3 act novel. Jennifer is so real and honest in this recounting of all she's been through to get to where she is. Her narration is fun and a pleasure to listen to. Whether you are struggling in life or not, and I think we are all struggling to some extent, I hope you'll give this a read or a listen. Even if you don't agree with everything she says or stands for, at least she stands. Well done Jennifer!
