I’m really going to miss these characters!
Revisado: 11-30-22
It was so hard to come to the end of a series. Sarah Donati did a wonderful job pulling me into history and into the Bonner family. Kate Reading is amazing and helped me visualize every character with the voices she has mastered. I will look for other audiobooks by this author and this narrator. I will miss all the people of Paradise. Thank you.

Historia
Brooke Chapman-Powell takes her position as the Earl of Englefield’s personal secretary very seriously. This job is what keeps her sister in the university for the deaf and the town from completely shutting down. But the earl is dying, and they have only one hope: an American, from some place called Salvation, Virginia. Now she will have to teach the in-all-likelihood-uncouth-and-lazy half American how to be a proper earl if they hope to save the village. God help them all.

Far fetched
Revisado: 03-10-22
Although I ABSOLUTELY LOVED John Lane’s performance, the book was a little unbelievable. The characters seemed to go from strangers to, “I love you, you complete me, and I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth”, in less than a month. I was shocked to realize I was in the last chapter when I would have liked to hear more character development. Maybe some chapters on Brook in America, escaping from the tabloids, but certainly more time getting to know each other on a deeper level. Maybe Nick supporting Brook through the funeral of the Earl and learning some enduring trades about “Gramps”. I kind of felt like the author was trying to hit a deadline and rushed to the conclusion.
I loved the characters and would love to hear a book about Brook’s sister.

Micah Beck is the last thing I expect to find wandering around my brother's beach house, naked, only wearing an acoustic guitar, but he's the first thing that has ever had me craving for just one "anything goes" night. Micah is tempting, talented, and addictive to the last drop. Not to mention, he's completely confident in all that he does. Especially with those fingers, and I can't deny that it's such a turn on.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-10-22
The story had poor character development. It was hard to believe the characters could have such strong feelings for each other on such a superficial foundation. I was shocked to hear the author end sentences with prepositions (a pet peeve of mine). I was also not impressed with the sex scenes. It seemed a little like Groundhog’s Day with the descriptions. I started rolling my eyes with the repetition: “I couldn’t wait to be inside her”, “I couldn’t wait for him to be inside me”.
The narrators were not impressive. For a female character who seems strong enough to walk away from a heartthrob, Maxine used a shaker, Whiney, worried voice 60% of the time. Joe seemed to be trying too hard to SOUND sexy. Overall, I don’t think the book was strong. It felt like a stretch…a Hail Mary to reach an author’s deadline by writing a fantasy, fictional autobiography. Disappointing.

I didn't plan on him...or for him. I didn't plan on anything that had to do with Cal Donovan from Boston. Meeting him was a complete and utter surprise, taking me completely off guard. I met new people every single day in my line of work, and none of them affected me. Isn't that just the way of things? You could meet a thousand people, and they'd all mean nothing to you, but then you'd meet that one and they suddenly meant everything.

Couldn’t finish it
Revisado: 11-22-21
I couldn’t get through chapter 3. I cannot listen to anything narrated by Erin Mallon. Her Whiney, drawn-out reading style and quick gasps after each sentence are so distracting I stop listening to the story…ALL of them. She is probably the most wonderful person in the world, but her reading style is not for me. I might listen to the story if it was narrated by a different female.

Better narration in first three cases.
Revisado: 05-29-21
I liked the even cadence of the narrator. I like the background music, and I like the facts and how they are presented! Very interesting and I like the performance of the narrator much better in the first three episodes than in the 4th and future cases. The narrator changes the emphasis of each word and it’s annoying. I’m not sure I’ll be able to continue listening to this new style of reading. The new style of reading is more staged…like a radio performance rather than the easy conversational style like the first episodes. I hope it changes back.

Determined to be there for his children, Devin has put his life on hold, putting his children first even if that meant telling himself that he couldn’t have the only woman he’d ever wanted.

Lots of lip worrying!
Revisado: 03-05-21
I’ve listen to several books by RL Mathewson and I’ve enjoyed them. In every book she uses the term “worrying her bottom lip” at least once. In this book, I feel like someone dared her to incorporate that phrase 20 times. She did. It got so annoying. It was like a drinking game.I found myself rolling my eyes every time I heard it. The narration is wonderful; it is hard to believe Fran Jules can make two child voices sound so realistic. Wonderful job! The story was good, but please stop with the worrying of the bottom lips!

Great story & performance. Poor editing.
Revisado: 12-29-20
I enjoyed the story. It was very touching and artfully told. The narration was excellent with voices of characters skillfully executed. The only criticism was in the editing or mixing of the story. In some places it felt like the story was cut sentence-for-sentence with a slight change in the narrator’s voice (tone/cadence/energy/volume). It was distracting and noticeable in many places throughout the book. My thoughts were taken away from the story and made to think about the editing practices and why certain sections may have needed to be re-read or replaced. I needed to back up the story to hear what I missed in certain places where the editing had distracted me.

Almost couldn’t listen
Revisado: 03-09-20
The story was good, I enjoyed the story of Mac and Freya better, but this story kept me guessing and interested until the end. I almost couldn’t listen because the reading style of the female narrator was so annoying the way she drops and drags the last word of every sentence. I’m afraid I’ll need to sample the
other books carefully before I make the purchase.
