Historia
Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

Historia
It is 1819, and Captain Adam Bolitho is ordered once again to Freetown in West Africa with secret orders for the senior officer there. The slave trade has been outlawed by many nations, but a hundred thousand slaves are still shipped out annually, the profit for slavers considered worth the risk of interception by the Royal Navy. For Adam, newly married and as fiery as ever, Africa will bring reunions and unexpected allies, and a treachery that wears the mask of friendship, and threatens the very heart of all he loves.

James Lee Burke is an enigma
Revisado: 05-10-20
“I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.” Tom Waits (via quotemadness)
James Lee Burke is an enigma to me. He is fascinated (obsessed?) with violence and very talented in portraying the deepest kind of violence and threats of violence in every book he writes yet his social philosophy is the deepest kind of bleeding heart modern liberalism. Something is wrong with that picture, something must be phony, like playing up to the liberal publishing powers by showing hatred for the southern good old boys he always writes about, or maybe it's just sick, like a cuckold getting off on violent contradictions. Modern liberalism has a way of creating philosophically messed up though talented artists.

Having a problem with Elizabeth George
Revisado: 12-06-19
Having a problem with Elizabeth George. She fills her books now with too many detailed side stories that look like she is aware of being paid by the quantity of pages, and her overly detailed side stories are often boring even though she uses the F-word to show how hip she is?....Therefore I'm going to give her books a rest for a bit.

Historia
"Glasnost" is on everyone's lips, but the rules of the game haven’t changed for either side. When a beautiful Russian woman foists off a manuscript on an unwitting bystander at the Moscow Book Fair, it's a miracle that she flies under the Soviets' radar. Or does she? The woman's source (codename: Bluebird) will trust only Barley Blair, a whiskey-soaked gentleman publisher with a poet's heart.

Historia
Over the course of his seemingly irreproachable life, Magnus Pym has been all things to all people: a devoted family man, a trusted colleague, a loyal friend - and the perfect spy. But in the wake of his estranged father's death, Magnus vanishes, and the British Secret Service is up in arms. Is it grief, or is the reason for his disappearance more sinister? And who is the mysterious man with the sad moustache who also seems to be looking for Magnus? In A Perfect Spy, John le Carré has crafted one of his crowning masterpieces.

Revisado: 09-17-19
John le Carre's narratives show true genius, but they always leave me depressed, and it's not easy to know why? I think it might be the-end-justfies-the-means lies of all intelligence organizations in defense of all the competitors, the cynicism of it all, that is depressing.

Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.
