A Good Start

This is a good basic overview of a godly way to handle singleness & romance, including its pursuit, living in, and sometimes, breaking off. However, if you’re a seasoned Christian, many of these concepts are elementary and don’t offer any new insight, nor practical applications beyond the bare-bones basics. Definitely a good start if you don’t have the slightest idea on what to do, or if you’ve come from a radically unhealthy romantic past, but not if you’re looking for something more nuanced.

Additionally, the narration is oddly slow, but when you speed it up, it sounds just natural enough to sound like he’s forcibly speed-reading with the occasional pauses in in unnatural places. Not terrible narration, and easy to follow, but I’ve heard much better in the few other audiobooks I’ve listened to.

Overall, it’s a good start to exploring the world of romance in God’s eyes.

Unloveable Characters in a Mess of a Story

An aimless story centered on two bland, unloveable characters, one of which is weak, immature, and manipulative. Pointless subplots drown whatever I could imagine to be the main “focus,” and by the time I reached the end, I was relieved it was over.

In regards to performance, the narrator had so similar intonations for the two main characters, and so few pauses between their lines, that dialogue became VERY hard to follow.

performance was poor, ironically unpractical, and is full of stupidly obvious information. it was a waste of my time and money.
