Appointed to conquer the "crime capital of the world", the first police chief of Paris faces an epidemic of murder in the late 1600s. Assigned by Louis XIV, Nicolas de La Reynie begins by clearing the streets of filth and installing lanterns throughout Paris, turning it into the City of Light. truth trumps fiction
Revisado: 12-18-18
This is much more exciting than a dissertation .Some times people are just not very nice. Those who hang onto the coat tails of power others are oft time very bad actors. There is a historical echo here that draws bottom from our present political universe .

too clever by half
Revisado: 12-17-18
A great many listeners enjoyed this book. Imagine injecting the writer into a who dun it. Mr. H, Tony to his intimates, is the central character in the book- clever. The shameless name dropping is so fascinating. I just had to put down the book. If you want to learn all about the really special word of our very popular and important author this for you.
I could not get to the end.

Sir Arthur would be proud and pleased that modern writers do a better job than he did with the Holmes canon. Clearly he has given his readers both roots and wings.

The most fatal virus known to science, rabies kills nearly 100 percent of its victims once the infection takes root in the brain. From Greek myths to zombie flicks, from the laboratory heroics of Louis Pasteur to the contemporary search for a lifesaving treatment, Rabid is a fresh, fascinating, and often wildly entertaining look at one of mankind’s oldest and most fearsome foes.

Simon Winchester phage
Revisado: 07-24-12
Any additional comments?
I am reminded of Simon Winchester. It is like an assembly of the foot notes that populate the Winchester books. That is a matter of personal taste. If you read and enjoyed those dense footnotes, you will love this.

Imagine the twisted evil twins of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson and you have the dangerous duo of Professor James Moriarty - wily, snake-like, fiercely intelligent, terrifyingly unpredictable - and Colonel Sebastian Basher Moran - violent, politically incorrect, debauched. Together they run London crime, owning police and criminals alike. When a certain Irene Adler turns up on their doorstep with a proposition, neither man is able to resist.

close shave
Revisado: 12-16-11
This work employs the plot devices and style of the Flashman stories in all respects but date of writing. A modern Doyle cover can be a lot of fun. There are several authors in your collection who out- Doyle Doyle. What is the point of out- MacDonald Fraser-ing MacDonald Fraser? This work is too close a shave. I am exhausted and and left pining for the real thing -- Flashman.

Not for the faint of heart
Revisado: 12-15-10
A dystopian future with plot lines like clock work. Simple choices made in support of orthodoxies result in grave changes.Gene-ripping fuels the law of unintended consequences. I wish the narrator had asked for help in pronouncing Mandarin words. Considering the size of the production staff some one should have red-flagged the foreign language words. This one is not to be missed

good writing goes un punished
Revisado: 04-21-10
Johnson writes with polished prose. In places, the narrative passages have the texture of short poems. His use of language suggests a skill long forgotten by many authors. The major plots are carefully braided and crafted into a rope that binds one to the story. Once started, you can not put it down. This author deserves every penny of his royalties -- and more.
