Historia
Albert Corde is a professor of journalism and dean of students at a Chicago university. He and his wife, Minna, travel to Bucharest, Romania, where Minna's mother has suffered a stroke and is lying semiconscious in the local state hospital. As Corde tries to adapt to life in his mother-in-law's small apartment and cope with her relations and friends, news filters through to him of problems he left behind in Chicago: one of his students has been murdered.

Reader was terrible!
Revisado: 12-08-21
The reader was an unbelievable monotone! I was shocked that the book was in the Audible collection with this inflexible voice. Having listened to more than 1000 Audible books with pleasure I couldn't believe this one had passed the entry test!

Along the Broken Bay
Revisado: 04-17-20
This book has an unusual WWII setting: The Philippines with Manila Bay featured. It is well written with believeable characters and a fast paced plot. I was fascinated as the story opened up memories of the palaces and people in the fight to reclaim what the Japanese had taken. Bravo Flora Soloman!

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Water for Elephants
Revisado: 08-06-18
This book is an exce!ent presentation of a special life in a traveling circus of the 1930's as remembered by a 93 year old living in an assisted living facility. The great voices of two narrators make clear which time period is which and give remarkable voice and feeling to the assorted people and animals populating the story.
There is something in this beautifully recorded book for many ages and stations in life from memories to tips for care givers, for middle aged adults wanting to understand their aging relatives, or someone wanting to know more about the Great Depression.
