Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Candace Owens is a wise and very brave young woman
Revisado: 12-05-21
Candace Owens may single handedly save race relations in this country if only people will read her book. Black Americans, white Americans, all Americans. Well written, beautifully and forcefully narrated by the author. I will continue to watch, read and listen to this remarkable young American.

Historia
Those now notorious intercepted emails documenting leading scientists conspiring to squelch global-warming skeptics and falsifying data proved exactly what Brian Sussman has been saying for years. Climategate is intended for anyone who has ever expressed skepticism about the clamorous environmentalist claims that the Earth is in peril because of mankind's appetite for carbon-based fuels.

Not about Climategate
Revisado: 05-09-19
I listened to this expecting a comprehensive report of "Climategate" - the Climatic Research Unit email controversy of 2009. Although the author spends some time on this it is certainly not the focus of the book and does not provide any comprehensive details. The book is instead a general summary of the climate skeptics' arguments with regard to global warming. If you are already familiar with these, then there won't be much new to learn. He does do a good job of describing the Cap-and-Trade bill and much of the regulatory scheme embedded in it.
The author uses derogatory names repeatedly when referring to those who promote global warming hysteria. While I also feel these people are misguided or have ulterior motives, name calling is not persuasive and is amateurish.
Finally, the author tries to tie together socialism/communism with atheism. In other words, if you believe in God, then you cannot be a socialist and if you don't believe, then you must be a commie. As someone who is an atheist and a staunch free-market Libertarian, I found this offensive. He lays this out right in the first chapter and I almost turned the book off. I stayed with it hoping there would be some meat in the book, but not so much.

Historia
What happens when a man of today's overconnected world sets off alone across the Pacific at the age of 71? Christian Williams, a veteran sailor and writer, planned a 6,000-mile voyage as a test of his own seamanship and endurance, and to fulfill a lifelong goal. But he found his focus quickly turning from the surrounding sea to all of us. Is anyone the same person when no one else is there? Do we dare to find out?

More than just Sailing
Revisado: 12-17-17
This book is much more than a story about single-handed sailing. Plenty of that, for sure. But in addition, I found the author an excellent and entertaining narrator, an excellent teacher, story teller and artistic observer of the human experience at sea and ashore. I laughed, and I cried with Mr. Williams on our journey to Hawaii and beyond. Yes, I will go up and put in the third reef.
Thanks for having me along!

Dinosaurs, with their awe-inspiring size, terrifying claws and teeth, and otherworldly abilities, occupy a sacred place in our childhoods. They loom over museum halls, thunder through movies, and are a fundamental part of our collective imagination. In My Beloved Brontosaurus, the dinosaur fanatic Brian Switek enriches the childlike sense of wonder these amazing creatures instill in us. Investigating the latest discoveries in paleontology, he breathes new life into old bones.

Great book. Poor performance.
Revisado: 01-16-16
I thoroughly enjoyed the content of the book but had trouble staying with it because of what seemed like an uninspired performance. I was surprised when I realized that the reader and the author are one and the same. The person reading the book just doesn't sound interested in dinosaurs or paleontology. Go figure. Being only the casual dinosaur enthusiast, I learned a lot.

Where did the universe come from? What was there before it? What will the future bring? And finally, why is there something rather than nothing? Krauss’ answers to these and other timeless questions, in a wildly popular lecture on YouTube, has attracted almost a million viewers. One of the few prominent scientists to have actively crossed the chasm between science and popular culture, Krauss reveals that modern science is indeed addressing the question of why there is something rather than nothing—with surprising and fascinating results.

Excellent
Revisado: 07-28-12
Despite what some of the other reviewers have said, Krauss makes a convincing argument that the universe could arise from nothing - as long as quantum fluctuations in empty space qualify as nothing. I found his narration to be excellent as he conveys the enthusiasm that he has for the subject. I rate the book very high though I agree with some others that his continued "sniping" at the faithful is not necessary. His frustration with the God debate is worn on his sleeve.

Historia
On the first Sunday in December 1941, an armada of Japanese warplanes appeared suddenly over Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and devastated the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Six months later, in a sea fight north of the tiny atoll of Midway, four Japanese aircraft carriers were sent into the abyss. Pacific Crucible tells the epic tale of these first searing months of the Pacific war, when the U.S. Navy shook off the worst defeat in American military history and seized the strategic initiative.

Top Notch
Revisado: 07-28-12
An excellent and entertaining read. I learned a lot about the early part of the war in the Pacific. And it was an exciting read. I love Gardner's performance but I see that not everybody does. Listen to the sample - his voice and delivery are distinctive - you decide. The writing is excellent, in my opinion. Lots of detail and interesting asides without slowing down the story. Mr. Toll, please write the next part!
