Rather unlikely plot rescued by brilliant narration
Revisado: 04-14-25
Starts well but increasingly hard to suspend your disbelief. The brilliant narrator rescues it, his sonorific voice is a pleasure to listen to.

Historia
When a rogue military faction in China kidnaps a CIA case officer, global tensions ignite. Desperate to forestall the looming firestorm, the United States deploys an elite team of Navy SEALs to rescue the agent, protected by nothing but their training and a single pilot providing air cover from his FA-18E Super Hornet—normally, it wouldn’t be enough. But these aren’t normal times…and this is no ordinary pilot.

Much better than book 1
Revisado: 03-15-25
The plot was good and kept me interested throughout. The fact that the main characters weren’t continually making silly choices made this a much better book than the first in the series. As always Ray Porter narrates brilliantly.

His jet becomes unresponsive as it rolls inverted and enters a nosedive aimed right at the aircraft carrier’s unsuspecting escort cruiser… What follows is a tale of heroism and betrayal, spycraft and suspense, and aerial combat against an unexpected adversary.

When heroes are stupid
Revisado: 03-10-25
Any book read by ray porter is likely to be good. This one could have been great, but the author consistently makes the heroes behave stupidly so the tension can continue. In the end I was rather hoping they wouldn’t survive just because they were so consistently stupid.

Historia
She's just watching, thinking about it again, when a big flash car pulls up outside. No one gets out. Then the doors of the bar open and people appear. Two men and a youngish woman, and one of the men has a hold on the woman's arm. It looks as if they're having words. Then this all happens quickly—they push the woman towards the car, one of the back doors opens, and they manhandle her inside. Sarah hears a muffled shout from the woman and the car pulls away. It's all over in a few seconds.

Historia
A man wakes up in a hospital bed, with no idea who he is or how he came to be there. The only information the doctor shares with his patient is his name: Innokenty Petrovich Platonov. As memories slowly resurface, Innokenty begins to build a vivid picture of his former life as a young man in Russia in the early 20th century, living through the turbulence of the Russian Revolution and its aftermath. But soon, only one question remains: How can he remember the start of the 20th century, when the pills by his bedside were made in 1999?

A MASTERPIECE
- De William Collins en 07-14-18
Deep and odd, not an easy read but a rewarding one
Revisado: 08-20-23
A book it would be very hard to categorise, as it is unusual in so many ways. If you liked Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance then you would probably like this. The Russian names both place and people are a little hard to get a grip on but the translator and the narrators do a marvellous job in making this listenable and rich in English. A book that will stay with you for a while and one that I can't say I wholly understand but one that you will want to research more about after you have listened.

Like the book an easy listen, the narrator had a lovely sonorific voice, but couldn't do British accents to save his life, don't let this put you off though.
