Historia
Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she's blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacks - and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her 11th birthday. But as Morrigan awaits her fate, a strange and remarkable man named Jupiter North appears. Chased by black-smoke hounds and shadowy hunters on horseback, he whisks her away into the safety of a secret, magical city called Nevermoor.

The story is fresh and the characters are interesting and the narration is superb. Some of the characters are odd and Gemma Whelan depicts them brilliantly. Fun, fun listen.

Revisado: 05-21-18
This is the story of an interesting and intelligent man leading an interesting life told in his own voice. At the beginning of his legal career, he knew his adversaries so he was able to strategize working with/against them. Life goes on. Then, the day comes for which none of us is ever really prepared. We meet the person we love, work for, admire, learn from or any other type of life situation in which we are beholding to this person, and life as we knew it is over for good. We have just met the abuser. The nice person who kicks us and then lifts us up with apologies and promises. This person will ruin us if we let them. Comey didn't let him. Thus this book.

Stories got better as characters were fleshed out
Revisado: 07-19-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
No. I don't know anyone else who listens to audio books. Their loss, I know.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
I like a great mystery and these were not complex situations but what I enjoyed were the meetings of the minds which went over and over the aspects of the cases and came to a conclusion. Not tingly but just a very enjoyable listen during our summer monsoon storms here in AZ.
What does Tom Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Lennon's accent is great. I have never visited the deep south but I have read that the accent is a little Brooklynish and he added that to his narration. His Jamaican accent could be improved though.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Relaxing in an intellectual way.
Any additional comments?
Ordered the next set. Can't wait to see where the characters go from here.

Historia
A gargantuan, mind-altering comedy about the Pursuit of Happiness in America set in an addicts' halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, Infinite Jest explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives; about how our desire for entertainment affects our need to connect with other people; and about what the pleasures we choose say about who we are.

You just may find yourself in one of these scenes.
Revisado: 10-27-14
Where does Infinite Jest rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Tied for first.
What other book might you compare Infinite Jest to and why?
Anathem by Neal Stephenson. I have listened to Anathem dozens of times and always find it enjoyable. The prose and thoughtfulness in both books is rare.
What does Sean Pratt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This narrator is exquisite in his intonations. He nails the mood and age of the speaker. I have looked through the written book and it is daunting to say the least but Sean Pratt's narration makes sense of it.
Any additional comments?
David Foster Wallace was able to capture some of my growing up moments without ever meeting me. The scene with the drunken father and his son Jim in the garage with the Montclair was like a scene from my life. Father wanting to relive their heyday through a child who is disinterested at best and repulsed at least.
I have to admit that I sought Wikipedia for some insight into the book and found it quite helpful. The years are not numerical but corporate names which have been purchased like the names of some ball fields. Also the bad guys and their quest is a little hard to discover but Wiki lays it out.
I also downloaded the PDF for the endnotes and as a habit, I read a group of them before I read the text so the flow for me is smooth.
I was surprised to find myself in this book. Maybe you will too.

Far too much time spent on mayhem
Revisado: 06-06-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I have enjoyed the series so this was okay.
What could Robert McCammon have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stop with all the near death stuff. Come on, no one gets shot at, stabbed, poisoned, etc multiple times a week and survives. Just not real. There are many interesting characters which could have been further explored and would have been much more interesting than the mayhem.
Have you listened to any of Edoardo Ballerini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He doesn't lose his stride and I know by his voice which character is speaking. He has a good practice of using a whisper which is effective.
Was Mister Slaughter worth the listening time?
Well, yes, continuation of the series but as a stand alone, I would not have finished it.

Carl Mørck used to be one of Denmark’s best homicide detectives. Then a hail of bullets destroyed the lives of two fellow cops, and Carl - who didn’t draw his weapon - blames himself. So a promotion is the last thing he expects. But Department Q is a department of one, and Carl’s got only a stack of cold cases for company. Storyline is interesting
Revisado: 04-24-14
What did you love best about The Keeper of Lost Causes?
This story is something I haven't read before. I usually try to find very long books because short ones just don't seem to get the job done for me. This one kept my interest throughout.
What did you like best about this story?
I love the setting in Denmark and getting to know the characters. When a book makes me ask, "What is going to happen to so-and-so?" it has my attention.
Which scene was your favorite?
I can't tell you. It would spoil it for others.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I have listened to this book over and over. I still find it entertaining. I like the way the narrator, Erik Davies, uses the Scandinavian accent. Sounds like my grandparents.
Any additional comments?
The dearth of the "eff-word" is very refreshing. It is used as are some other swear words, but appropriately and sparingly. Also the conversation is pointed and not so drawn out that we have to put up with sentences which seem to be space fillers. This is a police mystery so there is violence, but again, it is to the point and fast paced. Lovely read.

Fraa Erasmus is a young avout living in the Concent of Saunt Edhar, a sanctuary for mathematicians, scientists, and philosophers, protected from the corrupting influences of the "Saecular" world by ancient stone, honored traditions, and complex rituals. Over the centuries, cities, and governments have risen and fallen beyond the concent's walls. Three times during history's darkest epochs, bloody violence born of superstition and ignorance has invaded and devastated the cloistered mathic community.

What did you love best about Anathem?
This is a story which grows with each telling. I have listened to it probably 30 times now and each time something new is revealed. The story is fresh and the characters are interesting. Most of all, I love the language. I grew up with a brother who made up his own vocabulary and only he and my cousin could understand it. Although this has mainly normal english speech, the addition of off the wall words is a treat.
Any additional comments?
I have to be honest, I always preview the narrators before I consider a book for listening. This book has numerous, interesting characters and the narrator nails them. After while, I knew who was speaking just from the voice. This made the book even more enjoyable.

In celebration of the week-long, once-in-a-decade rite of Apert, the fras and suurs prepare to venture outside the concent's gates - opening them wide at the same time to welcome the curious "extras" in. During his first Apert as a fra, Erasmus eagerly anticipates reconnecting with the landmarks and family he hasn't seen since he was "collected". But before the week is out, both the existence he abandoned and the one he embraced will stand poised on the perilous brink of cataclysmic change.

Historia
No One Would Listen is the exclusive story of the Harry Markopolos-lead investigation into Bernie Madoff and his $65 billion Ponzi scheme. While a lot has been written about Madoff's scam, few actually know how Markopolos and his team - affectionately called "the Fox Hounds" by Markopolos himself - uncovered what Madoff was doing years before this financial disaster reached its pinnacle. Unfortunately, no one listened, until the damage of the world's largest financial fraud ever was irreversible.

Entertainment while learning.
Revisado: 01-17-13
What did you like best about this story?
This is not really a "story" it is more of an education. I know nothing about the stock market and was hesitant to buy this book because I didn't believe I would understand it but Mr. Markopolos writes so well, and delivers just enough technical jargon that I could easily follow his flow.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Some of the names would be difficult to follow in written form and having them pronounced was good for me. The narrator was a little slow and flat so I tried to speed him up on my Kindle Fire, but that didn't please me either. I was surprised by the actual voices of some of the people involved including the author, but when I got used to them they seemed to add just enough variation to make the whole episode a reality.

Narrator made great book even better
Revisado: 12-18-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Nice way to escape into a fantasy world.
What other book might you compare The Hobbit to and why?
The Harry Potter series narrated by Jim Dale. The stories are unique and wonderful but the narration brings them to life.
What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?
The voices were good, but the extra special aspect for me was his singing of the old dwarf and elf songs. Such a nice surprise!
