Historia
In this intimate and open account—nothing like any rock-and-roll memoir you’ve ever read—Alex Van Halen shares his personal story of family, friendship, music and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and band mate. In his rough yet sweet voice, Alex recounts the brothers’ childhood, first in the Netherlands and then in working class Pasadena, California, with an itinerant musician father and a very proper Indonesian-born mother.

an incomplete and missed opportunity
Revisado: 10-26-24
Alex Van Halen reads the book as if he's standing in front of a junior high class reading an assignment. less than half of the Van Halen story is told as it ends with David Lee Roth leaving the band. it seems as if the brother 's story ends with Dave. leaving. over 20 years are overlooked and a lot of art done by him and his brother is also overlooked. it looks like Dave was right. he was the heart and soul of Van Halen. overall cannot recommend the audiobook. The printed book might be better

Words on the Move opens our eyes to the surprising backstories to the words and expressions we use every day. Did you know that silly once meant "blessed"? Or that ought was the original past tense of owe? Or that the suffix -ly in adverbs is actually a remnant of the word like? And have you ever wondered why some people from New Orleans sound as if they come from Brooklyn?

interesting book on language
Revisado: 04-04-24
this book does an extraordinary job of explaining the how and why language changes as time goes by. I used to be irritated by the different meanings words took on as time went on, as I am 50 years old, but at some point I realized that since I was in school to now, even I use the new meanings of words and therefore cannot judge. this book reminded me of that.

Historia
Robert Johnson is the subject of the most famous myth about the blues: he allegedly sold his soul at the crossroads in exchange for his incredible talent, and this deal led to his death at age 27. But the actual story of his life remains unknown save for a few inaccurate anecdotes. Up Jumped the Devil is the result of over 50 years of research. Gayle Dean Wardlow has been interviewing people who knew Robert Johnson since the early 1960s, and he was the person who discovered Johnson's death certificate in 1967.

The unexplained life of Robert Johnson
Revisado: 08-14-21
although extensively researched and very well written, this is another book that seems to have a lot of inaccuracies and myth building stories embedded in it. I think at this time it would be impossible to truly tell the story of the life of Robert Johnson. We have his music and we have all the books that have been written about him, and if we combine all the stories, we can come up with a fuzzy picture of his life. For its technical research and information, this book is highly recommended.

everything in one place
Revisado: 06-30-21
the great thing about this collection is that it gathers all his writings in one place. the one thing that takes away from this collection is that some of the readings do an injustice to the writings of Jim Morrison. the recording that he did of his own writing really convey the feeling and meaning of his words. but that is not a big fault because it is like that with any interpretation of poetry that is not your own. definitely recommend this to any fan of Jim Morrison and his writing.

food for thought
Revisado: 03-14-21
This is a great book full of ink now, known, and forgotten rules for life. Following these rules, which are universal and not entirely new, will set your life on a more comfortable and revealing path. The only problem I found is the religious moments in the book. If the religious passages were to be framed differently, this would be a book I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Historia
When Norm Macdonald, one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, was approached to write a celebrity memoir, he flatly refused, calling the genre “one step below instruction manuals.” Norm then promptly took a two-year hiatus from stand-up comedy to live on a farm in northern Canada. When he emerged he had under his arm a manuscript, a genre-smashing book about comedy, tragedy, love, loss, war, and redemption. When asked if this was the celebrity memoir, Norm replied, “Call it anything you damn like.”
