An interesting journey
Revisado: 12-07-19
I've only recently been following Jim Gaffigan and his family antics via CBS Sunday Morning. My interest also sparked because I live in Milwaukee and Liz was one of my students. I had no idea that Liz would be apart of the book and was pleasantly surprised.
Overall, I thought the book was entertaining and informative. The entire process of dealing with a major health crisis is heroic. The frustration and sadness that I felt were the continual complications and setbacks. I've had my own health problems where the primary problem became secondary to an infection or complication due to the results of previous surgery. It is oh, so, very annoying. Jeannie deals with these complications with gusto and hope.
The entire journey was interesting and kept me wanting to listen.
The very best to Jeannie, Liz and Jim.

Historia
In I.M., Isaac Mizrahi offers a poignant, candid, and touching look back on his life so far. Growing up gay in a sheltered Syrian Jewish Orthodox family, Isaac had unique talents that ultimately drew him into fashion and later into celebrity circles that read like a who’s who of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: Richard Avedon, Audrey Hepburn, Anna Wintour, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey, to name only a few.

My sister recommended IM to me. I'm not into fashion, I never watch him on TV or anything. Just kinda thought he was a *itchy queen. At least I kept with it. I guess.

Theatre to Service
Revisado: 05-19-19
Note: I was an intern at the famed Steppenwolf in 1987. I sat backstage in the dark waiting to apply make-up to Mr. Sinise's FEET for a Sam Shepard play!! In the 90's I worked at the rival Goodman while many of my friends were at Steppenwolf. I hung out a lot at Steppenwolf and have been privy to many backstage antics. At one point I even babysat Gary and Moira's kids - which was a pleasure. I am so happy to hear that they are doing well.
I really enjoyed the telling of the formation of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. It was an sweet look back to a part of my life that was formed by these wonderful creatives. Being able to hear the details of the troop was delightful. I also enjoyed hearing about the why's and when's of Gary's work for the troops. He has a huge heart and he has reached out to so many people effected by war. I would have to say though that the book was 1 or 2 chapters too long. After awhile it was just a list of all the gigs played and a verbal resume of his charitable contributions. I did come away though with a better understanding of what our veterans are struggling with and am thrilled to know that Mr. Sinse is making huge strides in helping our military men, women, and families. Thank you.

Historia
In December 2016, the world was shaken by the sudden deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds, two unspeakable losses. The stunned public turned for solace to Debbie’s only remaining child, Todd Fisher. The son of "America’s Sweethearts" Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Todd grew up amid the glamorous wealth and pretense of Hollywood. Thanks to his mother, Todd remained down to earth, his own man, but always close to his cherished mom, and to his sister through her meteoric rise to stardom and her struggle with demons that never diminished her humor, talent, or spirit.

I miss his girls
Revisado: 11-11-18
Todd Fisher does a great job telling tales about his mother and sister and it is also refreshing to hear about his own accomplishments in the entertainment industry. He tended to spend more time talking about his mom which came from an interesting point of view. His hot/cold relationship with his sister is evident by his ridicule of her but he certainly came from a point of brotherly love.

Likable, but not the best bio I have read. Sally Field's story is interesting and there are a few surprises but she seemed to complain too much and psychoanalyze everything. I certainly admire her vast wealth of work and find her to be one of the best actresses around. I thank her for sharing her story.

Teacher says "Awesome"
Revisado: 07-26-18
I teach children with Autism in an urban school. My boys love adventure, Minecraft, Legos anything to do with building. This book was recommended to me several years ago and I thought that it was time for me to break this out for my current students. As we listened the boys would draw and visualize and I was very impressed by what they were imagining.
I also used a resource that I found on Teacher-Pays-Teacher which included engineering challenges. My students made paper airplanes, shelter models, a bow and arrow and more. These challenges really enhanced our reading/listening time and comprehension.
This book and the challenges have encouraged me to create a Makerspace in my classroom this year. I can't wait!

Historia
In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a Black African father and a White American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a Black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father - a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man - has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey - first to a small town in Kansas, and then to Kenya....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I highly recommend this book to others. It's wonderful and gave me so much more knowledge about Obama than I expected.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Obama is an amazing narrator. His grasp of telling a story and use of accents is spot on. I could have sat and read listened the whole way through.

Historia
In a career spanning five decades, Nick Nolte has endured the rites of Hollywood celebrity. Rising from obscurity to leading roles and Oscar nominations, he has been both celebrated and vilified in the media; survived marriages, divorces, and a string of romances; was named the "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine; and suffered public humiliation over his drug and alcohol issues, including a drug-fueled trip down a "long road of nothingness" that ended in arrest.

Well Rounded Character
Revisado: 03-24-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am enjoying this book and have already recommended it to several people. Nolte's story is interesting and impressive.
What other book might you compare Rebel to and why?
Rob Lowe's books are similar to Nolte's. The story of fame, fortune, and downfall are uplifting.
Which character – as performed by Nick Nolte and Christian Baskous – was your favorite?
The narrator, Christian Baskous is amazing. He really captures Nolte's voice, tone, and raspiness. His performance makes listening to the story as if Nolte is reading it himself.

What did you love best about The Loving Push?
I teach children with Autism and find that conversations with my parents about their child's future is a very difficult conversation to have. I plan on recommending this book to my parents this upcoming school year.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Leigh Ashman?
She is a bit bland. Not the right fit for an audio book like this.
