Historia
Fabulous family saga of secrets held through two generations, set against the atmospheric background of the Lake District at Christmas. The year 1936 is drawing to a close. Winter grips Wetmoreland and causes a rare phenonmenon: The lakes freeze. For two local families, the Richardsons and the Grindleys, this will bring unexpected upheaval, as the frozen lake entices long-estranged siblings and children to return home for the holiday season.

not up to her other books

I knew the outcome less than half way through and struggled to finish. I enjoyed her Very English Mystery books but was disappointed with this one.

Historia
Ancient Rome has been in a state of turmoil as the rival gangs of Publius Clodius, a high-born, populist politician, and his arch-enemy, Titus Milo, have fought to control the consular elections. When Clodius is murdered on the famed Appian Way and Milo is accused of the crime, the city explodes with riots and arson, and even the near sacrosanct Senate House is burned to the ground.

Love the series but hate this narrator
Revisado: 08-23-13
I've read or listened to every book in the series up to this point and love the narration by Ralph Cosham. This narrator, Scott Harrison, is so bad that I quit listening and got the written version instead. He is way too shrill, making Gordianus sound angry and harsh most of the time. He mispronounces Grodianus (says "Gordi- Anus" instead of "Gordiahnus") and generally is impossible to listen to. Stick with the Cosham readings, you will have a much better experience. The stories are wonderful and the history blended in seamlessly. It's really too bad that this narrator mars the experience so badly.

Agatha Award-winning author Rhys Bowen’s charming combination of intrigue and romance blended with a touch of humor shines when performed by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Katherine Kellgren, whose deft range and impeccable accent work make it hard to believe this isn’t a multicast performance.

The whole series is great fun!

I'm about half way through the series and still enjoying it very much. The narrator is wonderful, and Georgie is a thoroughly delightful character. I recommend it highly!

Compelling story, wonderfully narrated
Revisado: 12-03-11
While I found The Patron Saint of Liars well written, this book is a fully formed gem with much more interesting and compelling people. The characters are wonderfully drawn, but the settings - Minnesota, India, Brazil - which are described in such detail that you can almost smell the river and feel the rain, are what really make the book. Hope Davis' narration is outstanding. All around a wonderful choice for any occasion.

Historia
Garrison Keillor's latest book is about the wedding of a girl named Dede Ingebretson, who comes home from California with a guy named Brent. Dede has made a fortune in veterinary aromatherapy; Brent bears a strong resemblance to a man wanted for extortion who's pictured on a poster in the town's post office. Then there's the memorial service for Dede's aunt Evelyn, who led a footloose and adventurous life after the death of her husband 17 years previously.

Extended Version of the News From Lake Woebegon
Revisado: 09-26-11
Performed by the author, this audio book is very much an extended version of the News from Lake Woebegon. A subtle mix of humor, sadness, and the absurd, it is wonderful listening.

Historia
The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Reminiscent of "Bedazzled"
Revisado: 11-03-10
A delightful and well narrated story about the end of times. Main characters include a demon with a soft spot for his Bentley, an angel who loves books, an "occultist" who descended from a witch who was a true prophet but saw the future through a straw, a witch hunter, and, of course, the anti-christ, in the form of an eleven year old boy with a hell hound shaped like a terrier. The four motorcyclists of the Apocalypse appear in a small English village, looking for an American air force base, and all the characters are brought together. It's great fun!
