might just be me, but the first couple books in this series were excellent and this one just never grabbed my attention. story is dry and boring

My only negative comment is that the flow was choppy with the dialogue (alot of he said, she said). I may just be used to first person writing though. 50 Cent stays putting out good product, nothing has changed there

Necessary Listen

if you're s fan of detective novels or mysteries, this is a must listen. I can't believe I'd never heard of the author previously. If you haven't either, do yourself a favor and purchase this book, and also research his life. The book is amazingly written and not dated at all despite being written nearly 100 years ago. The characters are believable and dialogue is masterful. Concepts and science discussed are ahead of it's time.

Series Solidified

Moseley avoided the sophomore jinx with the second King Oliver story. Easily my favorite author, he seamlessly weaved 2 plot lines together in one while giving realistic and nuanced character growth like no other. Dion Graham is a wonderful narrator that brings the story to life. Huge fan of this series along with Easy Rawlins and Leonid Mcgill. Moseley is simply the best at telling stories. If you like those series, you will love this as well.

Tinsley really did his research and included details that gave a feel for Christopher Wallace the person. I was hesitant to get the book because so much has been written about Biggie, and he's been the subject of documentaries and films, but the author managed to include details and presented the story in a way that seemed fresh. "Get to know me man, to know me is to love me", that quote drove the story.
Dion Graham is a good narrator, but I gotta deduct a point for him continously pronouncing Lil Cease name like "cease and desist" instead of short for Cesar. He butchered Jeru Da Damaja's name too, don't think he got that's a variation of "damager".

If you enjoyed the show, you will love this book

Jenkins was really off the chain b. Off the muthaf*#in chain! Lol, seriously, I thought that the show on HBO may have indulged for entertainment purposes, but Jenkins and the other thugs were just as out of control, if not more, than portrayed on TV. The book does however do a better job of showing how Jenkins was corrupted by police culture and power.

Dope, must read/ listen for Wu fans

Great book. Raekwon is a storyteller that I've been enjoying for 25+ years in music, was amazing to hear his story. I dug that he didn't present himself as perfect, admitted faults. It makes him more credible. The falling out with people u consider family was relatable to me, and I admire the way he's handled that. I love the Wu show on Hulu, but damn, wish they did the movie deal he had set up. I appreciate his love for the art of hip hop and the fans. Only thing that could've been better would be him narrating the whole book, although the interview portion with his son was a unique format. I'm ready for Only Built for Cuban Links 3, part 2 did justice to one of the best hip hop albums ever.

Classic must read (or listen)

Tbh, I only recently heard of this book. This season on The Chi, all the episodes were named after movies or books that were set in Chicago. I am grateful they did that, because it lead me to this classic. Classic is a word that's over used, but to me, it means exceptional and timeless. This book easily meets those standards. Dion Graham's performance is amazing. I've listened to several books narrated by him, and in each one, he alters his tone, attitude, dialect and energy differently to match the story. I know they made a movie out of this back in the day, but it would be a good one to update and remake set in current times. Unfortunately, things haven't changed so much since the late 60s when this story was set. It's very relevant to what's going on today.
