A “must read”
Revisado: 11-26-24
This is a brutally honest look at mental health and how to look past the stigmas and have empathy for those you don’t understand. These lessons really go beyond mental health and into the realm of seeing people as human beings deserving of love. ♥️♥️♥️

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

So much fun!
Revisado: 07-05-24
This book is so much fun! Will W is a phenomenal narrator and brought the characters to life in a great way! Scalzi may be my new all-time favorite author with this light-hearted sci-fi “get away”! I couldn’t stop listening and yet didn’t want it to end either! As always, the plot twists are fun and quirky, as are the characters!
My only complaint is the language but the “f-word” is ubiquitous these days anyway!

Historia
Our way of life didn’t end with a bang. There was no pandemic, no foreign invasion, no EMP, and no natural disaster. Our way of life was rotting away in front of our eyes for decades before the violent collapse, but it was an inconvenient truth that no one wanted to address and only a few dared to speak of in private with close friends. It wasn’t discussed in the news, nor was it debated in the capital. It was ignored for as long as it could be until it couldn’t be ignored anymore.

Interesting “apocalyptic” take
Revisado: 06-11-24
So nice to have a non-Zombie story! If you’ve paid any attention at all to the news in the last couple decades you can totally see some of this happening. Yes, conspiracy theories, yes, doomsday preppers, yes, the title is true about violence! But aside from some atrocious grammar and non-Missouri pronunciations, I rather enjoyed this! Kept me interested & wanting to see where the author was going to finish with his main characters and honestly, I’d like to see a book 2!

Historia
Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Not ready to give up the life yet, they come up with a proposal for fellow former cop, Laurie Carpenter, and her investigating partner, Marcus. They call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted.

Disappointed
Revisado: 05-26-24
I was really hoping for a good K9/cop relationship story but the dog was almost an afterthought. I won’t dismiss the author completely, but I just was never drawn in by any of the characters. Maybe I missed some things because it’s a spin-off series?

Revisado: 03-04-24
Short, choppy sentences. Paragraphs are formulaic, as would be expected in a 6th grade writing. Narration is boring & monotone but could be due to the poor writing. I listened for about 8 minutes before I could no longer stand either. And I’m pretty tolerant.

Historia
When Martha Einkorn fled her father’s isolated compound in Oregon, she never expected to find herself working for a powerful social media mogul hell-bent on controlling everything. Now, she’s surrounded by mega-rich companies designing private weather, predictive analytics, and covert weaponry, while spouting technological prophecy. Martha may have left the cult, but if the apocalyptic warnings in her father’s fox and rabbit sermon—once a parable to her—are starting to come true, how much future is actually left?

Not my thing but got better
Revisado: 11-13-23
I really wanted to like this more, but overall it was still pretty good. Just not really my thing.
I disagree with the 1* comment about narration. Voices correspond to characters (there are gay characters, so that may have confused the listener?)
The graphic nature of sex scenes was off-putting. The use of the “f-word” too prolific for me.
Very interesting premise for a story, but I lost steam at the end, right after it seemed to gain it!
I actually found the “religious references” to be unique and interesting, albeit historically/biblically inaccurate, but it added to the nature of a future world view.
Not sorry I listened to it & I would definitely give the author another chance.

We all know that girl …
Revisado: 06-05-23
The one that keeps making stupid decisions. Yes, I too want to shake the main character so many times. But that’s part of the story! I enjoyed the book, find the mystery intriguing and love the narration. If I marked books down bc of a character’s “character trait” it seems wrong! Just don’t be that person in real life! ;-)
