Historia
When a Republic spy goes missing on the Moons of Varl, the Jedi Council asks Obi-Wan and Anakin to infiltrate an underground podracing circuit run by a crime boss believed to be holding the spy prisoner. With Anakin posing as a hotshot racer and Obi-Wan as his attendant, tensions between the two threaten to run even higher than usual. But when Obi-Wan is forced to leave Varl, Anakin is on his own as he faces a series of increasingly treacherous races that will determine his fate—and that of the spy.

Entertaining New Story
Revisado: 02-10-25
A fairly good new story about Obi Wan and Anakin, and thier dynamic, development, and cleverness. Could do without the they/them pronoun use for one character. that's always confusing. Overall a fun, short story though.

I heard the very knowledgeable author in a podcast and was excited to read this book after that. It did not disappoint and I wish there were more of it.

Voice of Tragedy
Revisado: 02-04-24
Great voice impressions! Narration and writing a little awkward sometimes. Story is pretty tragic, whether or not you like that sort of thing.

There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Different Tolkien
Revisado: 11-30-21
I've read and listened to a lot of Tolkien's work and am a big fan. It's been a while for some of it, such as the Silmarillon, but this one seems a bit edgier and much more dark and depressing than the others, and its characters are mostly unlikable and foolish. I didn't like it as well. Christopher Lee's performance of some characters, especially female ones, doesn't seem to have the appropriate gravity in certain conversations. It was interesting to see how this story ties in to other Middle-Earth tales that I remember though.

Encouraging, Inspirational, and Interesting
Revisado: 07-13-21
I highly recommend this book to husbands and fathers, and to anyone else who would like to read or listen to it with them. I would like to go back and listen to it again myself, paying more attention to and taking notes from sections I thought especially helpful or meaningful and to the discussion questions. There is a lot more I have in common with Matt Hammitt than I thought, both in how we feel and think and in difficulties and experiences we have had, especially in the little ways that might sound silly to talk about.
I've considered Matt Hammit my role model for a while because I admired how he kept his faith through his struggles regarding his son's severe heart issues. I followed the blog "Bowen's Heart." Reading this book, I learned interesting things about Matt and his life. He also had a lot of thoughts and wisdom to share that I can appreciate, especially since I can relate to some of what he had to share.
I know role models are people with issues and mistakes, but this book helps keep things in perspective. There were things I never knew he was dealing with regarding relationships and responsibilities when I was reading his blog, and I did not know about some other projects he and his wife have done that discuss such things. He has done and faced a lot, and he is far from perfect, just like every single other human being in existence. He's not better than people who look up to him, but he helps those people look up to God.

Gondolin, beautiful but undiscoverable, is central to the enmity of two of the greatest powers in the world. Morgoth of the uttermost evil seeks in vain to discover the marvellously hidden city of his Elven enemies, while the gods in Valinor refuse to support Ulmo Lord of Waters' designs to protect it. Into this world comes Tuor, cousin of Túrin, and guided unseen by Ulmo he sets out on the fearful journey to Gondolin to warn them of their coming doom.

Not what expected, but good
Revisado: 07-13-21
Not what I was expecting. There are several versions of the story, but they are all quite good. I really enjoyed them. I like Tolkien's style a lot.
Then there is a lot of commentary about the story versions, the history of their writings, possible reasons for this and that, and so on.
I'd just like a good version of the story.
