Mentality of someone trying to build
Revisado: 01-12-25
What’s interesting about the book is a peak into the mind of someone obsessed or naturally inclined to build and create. Sometimes it feels like the author is saying “being a creator is the only valuable thing you can do” but I eventually realized that’s not really the message, but the mentality creators have even if it’s not true.

Historia
In the bestselling The Signal and the Noise, Nate Silver showed how forecasting would define the age of Big Data. Now, in this timely and riveting new book, Silver investigates "The River," or those whose mastery of risk allows them to shape—and dominate—so much of modern life. These professional risk takers—poker players and hedge fund managers, crypto true-believers and blue-chip art collectors—can teach us much about navigating the uncertainty of the 21st century.

Never boring. As soon as I got tired of a subject it moved into a new area.

I like how seamless the story was. I would say he spends just a bit too much time on poker (probably could have cut out about 10% of it) but overall it was solid from start to finish.

Historia
Secularism is increasingly a fact of life in Western society. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that faith is harder than it has been before. Even in the past when organized religion enjoyed more widespread cultural acceptance, there were still obstacles to true belief. Today, the obstacles are different, but faith is still viable.

It was a great little story that didn’t try too hard to be an artistic masterpiece. It was simple, lovingly written, and doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.
