Terrible narration/performance
Revisado: 01-29-24
The book was okay, not Alistair Reynolds’s best, but the narration really ruined the experience for me.

More of the same garbage
Revisado: 10-26-23
Terrible narration with mispronunciations and poor intonation abound. Shallow plot. Bad writing. Lots of telling instead of showing. No character development. Overall, a third grader could do better with this premise.

Historia
The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-21-23
Disappointing low quality writing and full of plot holes and inconsistencies. Maybe the author is tired of writing this series. But if so, why recycle essentially the same premise in the fantasy genre with Convergence? Very disappointed in the way this turned out, and not planning to read the other series after this.

Historia
Rigel is a thousand lightyears farther from the Core Worlds than Earth, so they suffer the first attacks. The mood at Central is jubilant. Our greatest rival is falling—now is the time to strike while they’re weak! Legion Varus is deployed to Jungle World, a vital planet deep in Rigellian territory. Our foes, fighting on two fronts, are driven back with ease. But one man questions the wisdom of this move. Should Earth expand with greed, aiding new monsters from the Galactic Rim? That lone voice of reason comes from James McGill.

Historia
The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, a midden, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, prisoner, survivor.

This was a flop.
Revisado: 02-28-23
Children of Time was good, but Cage of Souls not so much. This one was a flop. The narration was not great, and the incessant repetition of the protagonist’s name was grating on top of an already pockmarked plot.

Terrible narration, boring plot, not worth the money
Revisado: 11-08-21
This installment of the Delphi series, as all of those narrated by Gurd, feature mispronunciations of common English words and monotone/flat narration that might as well have been delivered by a text to speech synthesizer. The delivery is not the only problem, however. The quality of the plot and the continued lack of character development suggest the author is phoning it in at this point. With “just so” stories and Deus Ex machina abound, no real challenges or action, and, well, a boring and overdone premise and execution, this book is not worth owning in any medium. This reader would like a refund.

Low quality narration
Revisado: 11-05-21
Narrator mispronounced many words, for example “ensign”. Performance was monotone and dull. Plot was mediocre and predictable, filled with “just so” moments and without any real character development. Not worth the money.

Thrilling and technically accurate. Cliff’s book is a real page-turner, and a fascinating reminder of the hey-day of computer systems/security.
