I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

Historia
Mrs Abbott is flustered at the thought of putting up a lady from the Red Cross, but is happily surprised when she turns out to be an old friend from her previous life as Miss Buncle, infamous writer. Of course, she’s now far too busy with her children to write, not to mention helping out in the lives of the villagers. And with a possible spy in their midst, evacuated families, potential love matches and a visit from a famous writer, she’s got her work cut out for her.

Another D.E.Delight
Revisado: 04-23-22
Loved the continuing saga, with it's various characters. Fantastic performance. Gave this one a 4 instead of a 5 because I found following so many different story arcs, while amusing, didn't make for quite as much the page turner as Miss Buncle's Book. But still delightful.

Historia
Lissie is a nurse in a gritty, hectic London neighborhood. Always terribly competent and good at keeping it all together, she’s been suffering quietly with PTSD after helping to save the victim of a shocking crime. Her supervisor quietly arranges for Lissie to spend a few months doing a much less demanding job in the little town of Kirrinfeif in Scottish Highlands, hoping that the change of scenery will help her heal. Lissie will be swapping places with Cormack, an Army veteran who’s Kirrinfeif’s easygoing nurse/paramedic/all-purpose medical man.

One ofColgan'sBest
Revisado: 03-27-22
While I find most of Colgan's heroine charming but slightly more clueless than I can believe, Lissa in this story was more believable to me because I work with women with PTS and they can be just like Lissa! I found this a sweet and fun romance, with meaningful glimpses into the life of NHS workers. Great narration!

Clever but...
Revisado: 01-03-22
i loved the 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear, and as a book lover thought I would love this one. But the main character is less likeable and there is a LOT of doom, gloom, and slime in this one. Still many laugh out loud moments and brilliant bits of creativity (Spink= speaking with garlic breath)

Historia
It is 1950. London is still reeling from World War II, and Margery Benson, a schoolteacher and spinster, is trying to get through life, surviving on scraps. One day, she reaches her breaking point, abandoning her job and small existence to set out on an expedition to the other side of the world in search of her childhood obsession: an insect that may or may not exist - the golden beetle of New Caledonia. When she advertises for an assistant to accompany her, the woman she ends up with is the last person she had in mind.

An unusual and thoroughly lovely listen
Revisado: 09-26-21
Listening to the misadventures of these loveable characters that transform them into stronger and better souls, and imagining the marvelous world we are drawn into by a great narrator and prose, I felt inspired by virtually every chunk of my listening. How nice to have a book that catches the human spirit!

Historia
Woodrow Wilson Nickel, age 105, feels his life ebbing away. But when he learns giraffes are going extinct, he finds himself recalling the unforgettable experience he cannot take to his grave. It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. They find it in two giraffes who miraculously survive a hurricane while crossing the Atlantic. What follows is a twelve-day road trip in a custom truck to become Southern California’s first giraffes. Behind the wheel is the young Dust Bowl rowdy Woodrow.

I found this a special listen. The narrator was perfect for the story and I found it not only engrossing (without the usual graphic violence, sex, or espionage) but inspiring. I feel motivated to help endangered species. What a subtle way to.inspire us to be better planet keepers!

Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

A clever story with likeable characters
Revisado: 07-13-21
Enjoyed it more and more as the story progressed. What I love about Bastone's characters is their charmingly owning their social anxieties and overcoming them. My only problem with this audible edition is that the male reader sounds so much older, I could only picture a guy with gray hair in maybe his late 40's. (Did not have this with Sweet Talk). But a great story!

The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Throughout history, women have played integral roles in family, society, religion, government, war - in short, in all aspects of human civilization. Their contributions have often shaped history and shifted the axis of power for later generations of women. And yet, unearthing their stories from the historical record has often been a challenge. In Powerful Women of the Medieval World, Professor Dorsey Armstrong will introduce you to 10 amazing women who played vital roles in the Middle Ages.
