Revisado: 03-25-22
Haven recently been introduced to the Bahai religion, I am grateful to receive thru this audio book an excellent summary of how it started, what it embraces, how it is practiced, and why it is something everyone should consider.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
In centering Black women’s stories, two award-winning historians seek both to empower African American women and to show their allies that Black women’s unique ability to make their own communities while combatting centuries of oppression is an essential component in our continued resistance to systemic racism and sexism. Daina Ramey Berry and Kali Nicole Gross offer an examination and celebration of Black womanhood, beginning with the first African women who arrived in what became the United States to African American women of today.

What I didn't know - or appreciate!
Revisado: 07-21-21
I am a white woman, born in 1962, raised in Connecticut, graduated from high school 1980 and college 1985. I am no longer ignorant of black American history and the women in it! As I listened, i kept thinking, "Wow, that is awful!" and, "That was during my lifetime, or my mom's."
I've been able to put a lot of pieces together, like why it was important for my friend and colleague to join a black sorority when she earned her master's degree, why Martin Luther King Jr holiday was celebrated by her family, why the Black Lives Matter movement is so necessary. With the descriptions and facts provided in this book, I got a fraction of a taste of what she felt about her great grandmother who was a slave in the South.
Thank you for compiling this and making it so accessible! I think every American should hear this.

Historia
In the early years of the 18th century, a band of French scientists set off on a daring, decade-long expedition to South America in a race to measure the precise shape of the earth. Like Lewis and Clark's exploration of the American West, their incredible mission revealed the mysteries of a little-known continent to a world hungry for discovery. Scaling 16,000-foot mountains in the Peruvian Andes, and braving jaguars, pumas, insects, and vampire bats in the jungle, the scientists barely completed their mission.

Fascinating!
Revisado: 06-22-21
I learned so much from the world that this book opened up to me. I realized how ignorant I was about the European and Colonial world's, about scientific discoveries during this time period, and of cultural aspects of humanity that we seem to repeat , over and over - beneficial and detrimental. I hurried back to listen some more and am sorry that it is now over. VERY glad to have heard it.
