Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Predictable but enjoyable!
Revisado: 11-04-23
This was an entertaining listen, even if it was a pretty predictable story. The narration was great. And I did enjoy the history that was interwoven. I am happy i purchased and listened to this! Sometimes you just need something enjoyable and “easy.”

Historia
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.

Great story but didn’t love the narrator
Revisado: 10-17-23
This was a much different—sweeter—story than anticipated. I really liked it. But oddly I did not like the narrator, who is also the author. I kept thinking that I would have enjoyed the toned down narrative that I would have heard in my head if I were reading this more than what I was actually hearing. And I probably would have liked the main character a bit more.

Historia
Electra McDonnell has always known that the way she and her family earn their living is slightly outside of the law. Breaking into the homes of the rich and picking the locks on their safes may not be condoned by British law enforcement, but World War II is in full swing, Ellie's cousins, Colm and Toby, are off fighting against Hitler, and Uncle Mick's more honorable business as a locksmith can't pay the bills anymore. So when Uncle Mick receives a tip about a safe full of jewels in the empty house of a wealthy family, he and Ellie can’t resist.

An enjoyable listen!

The story was engaging, if not wholly original. There are a lot of novels out now that mirror this one, but it was terrific nonetheless. And the narration was great!

Meh narrator
Revisado: 05-05-21
After getting used to Rachel McAdams’ Anne in the first book, this narration of Anne seemed way too staid. It was as if Anne had become a 50 year old woman overnight. I also had a hard time knowing who was speaking at times. There was no variation in Anne’s voice from others’ voices. I much preferred the narration of Anne from McAdams. But the story was lovely despite the narration!

Thandie Newton is amazing
Revisado: 06-01-19
Jane Eyre is already considered a masterpiece. Thandie Newton’s narration only improves it. Even if you have already read this book—recently or many years ago—I urge you to listen to this version. Ms. Newton made it come alive in a way that I wouldn’t have previously have thought possible. Truly magnificent.

I loved the story on its own, but the performance was truly exceptional. Neil Shah made the book so entertaining. He has sort of ruined me for other narrators—he was that good. As a whole, this was one of my favorite audiobooks ever.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Interesting but. . .
Revisado: 01-16-19
The story was interesting enough, but it was about 1 hour too long and a little too “hooker with a heart of gold” for me. Ronson set August up as the archetypal victim and then had to find an archetypal villain as a foil. That part of the story felt forced, as did Ronson’s need to tell her husband that people thought he was emotionally distant.
