On Man's Courage
Revisado: 12-01-17
What made the experience of listening to Faith Alone the most enjoyable?
It provides a window into the day and time of Martin Luther: a context by which to comprehend the magnitude of his struggle.
What did you like best about this story?
Two Things: 1. The throes of conscience of a man committed to truth. 2. The strength of character that prevailed against the most powerful entity in his world.
What about Jonathan Petersen’s performance did you like?
I liked the cadence and linguistic dexterity in his performance.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Strength in one man's truth.
Any additional comments?
Martin Luther was a man propelled in his quest for truth -- regardless of its consequences. His example in his defense before the tribunal reflected his depth of character and resolve to stand upon that truth regardless of its consequences. With the absence of absolutes in today's world, there is very little upon which to anchor one's moral compass. This history provides a clear picture of moral and spiritual clarity rarely found in today's society.

Historia
If God is sovereign, how can I be free to choose? But if God is not sovereign, how can he be God? Is it possible to reconcile God's sovereignty with human choice? This is one of the most perplexing theological questions. It's also one of the most personal. In Hand in Hand, Randy Alcorn says that the traditional approach to this debate has often diminished our trust in God and his purposes. Instead of making a one-sided argument from select verses, Alcorn examines the question in light of all Scripture.

If you could sum up Hand in Hand in three words, what would they be?
An EXCELLENT comparative discussion
What did you like best about this story?
Research, simplicity, balanced
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The unabashed frankness and delivery
Any additional comments?
For the student of the Bible, this primer on Calvinism and Armenianism is an ESSENTIAL READ. The author is open, forthright and honest in presenting these SEEMINGLY mutually exclusive perspectives of God's sovereignty and man's free will. Bring an open mind and you will not be disappointed!

Historia
Kiss the Boys Goodbye convincingly shows that a legacy of shame remains from America’s ill-fated involvement in Vietnam even though that conflict ended over 35 years ago. Until US government policy on POW/MIAs changes, it remains one of the most crucial issues for any American soldier who fights for home and country, particularly when we are engaged with an enemy who doesn't adhere to the international standards for the treatment of prisoners - or any American hostage...

I AM MAD AS HELL ! ! ! !
Revisado: 06-27-17
What was one of the most memorable moments of Kiss the Boys Goodbye?
THE DUPLICITY AND APATHY OF THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT PURELY FOR POLITICAL REASONS ! !
Which scene was your favorite?
THERE WAS NO "GOOD SCENE," EXCEPT FOR THE EFFORTS OF A FEW PATRIOTS WHOSE DILIGENCE EXPOSED MALFEASANCE, NONFEASANCE AND MISFEASANCE OF OUR GOVERNMENT ! !
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
GOVERNMENT BETRAYAL OF OUR MILITARY !
Any additional comments?
Having served 62--68 with 4 years combat and having lost many good friends in that senseless politically motivated conflict, I am totally appalled to discover the depths of duplicity, out-right lying and obfuscation. The utter disregard and condemnation of brave Americans in uniform held by our enemies is reprehensible and inexcusable to the Nth degree. This book is NOT for the faint of heart, however, it should be mandatory reading for ALL Americans who blindly trust our representative government to be honest, fair and forthright when questioned.

An excellent, well sourced and thorough History.
Revisado: 09-01-16
Would you listen to The Greatest Knight again? Why?
Yess! There are so many essential behind the scenes minutia which directed major events requires that several re-readings seem essential. The scholarship and presentation are of the highest quality.
What did you like best about this story?
It was well researched and interwoven with many disperate sources that provide essential authority to this recounting of Marshall.
Have you listened to any of Derek Perkins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No --
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The presentation of Marshall's steadfast loyalty to each English king epitomized his commitment to the knight's code of chivalry. .
Any additional comments?
Although the performance at times was sonorous -- yet the subject matter captivated my attention. I'm not sure how one might perform differently -- perhaps with inflection, change of cadence, or some other method -- the presentation could have been more engrossing.

The consternation is immediate, as the CIA, FBI, and other agencies race to find out what happened, in the process elbowing one another in the sides a little too vigorously. Fed up, the president of the United States turns to an outside investigator to determine the truth.

WEB Griffin at his VERY best
Revisado: 08-13-15
What made the experience of listening to By Order of the President the most enjoyable?
The intonation, cadence and vitality of the reader were a significant asset to the content and text. One could literally be there with the subject to see and feel and experience what was going on. Great Job of conveying, not only the words of the text, but also its emotion, verve and context.
What did you like best about this story?
As a member of the 8th Special Forces in the 60's, I had a special interest in how faithfully this book would be to actual fact. I was MORE than pleasantly surprised to see the Green Berets -- their Esprit de Corps, camaraderie, professionalism, and devotion to completing the task CORRECTLY and completely -- were presented forthrightly.
Which scene was your favorite?
While several jump to mind -- the interaction within the CentCom's staff meetings. I was privy to Southern Command's staff meetings in Panama. As the several meetings were presented, I was transported almost 50 years back to my experience and participation. It wsas more than 'realistic' -- it was truly genuine.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Following the trail, not conflicting orders, demanded Major Castillo's dogged pursuit to avert another 9/11 type disaster.
Any additional comments?
As an aside, while serving in Special Forces missions, The most valuable quality, other than teamwork, was adaptability with resourcefulness. Keeping your attention focused on the completing the overall task sometimes meant deviating from conflicting orders. If you failed to complete the task, you were in deep stuff -- but if you succeeded, well, the kudos were well deserved. This book exemplifies every valuable trait for any Special Forces operative.

Mystery Man's Development Then CIA Appointment
Revisado: 09-03-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. The story takes a former navy seal from an obscure, private individual whose skills and aptitude become the basis for his entrance into the shadowy world of a CIA covert operative. The character development takes you into the person's mind so that you are able to think and feel with the character. The plot moves along nicely with sections of great suspense covering a wide range reactions. Emotionally, both the writer and reader take you from the sublime ecstasy of love and human compassion to the depths of disappointment and despair. Be careful --- there are several sections of the book that are extremely difficult to put down.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Although the central character, ultimately Mr. Clark, predominates the narrative, my favorite character was doctor who treated one of the girls rescued by him. He appears a few times throughout the narrative. His empathy, breadth of understanding of the human condition and his ability to take constructive criticism well were qualities that I admire.
What about Michael Prichard’s performance did you like?
His sonorous voice was pleasing to the ear as were the inflective distinctions he made for each character. His cadence, inflection and enunciation were well delivered. It was a pleasure to hear him give life to the words.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes -- if I could. There were times where when it was difficult to even put the disc on pause.
Any additional comments?
Tom Clancy is a true artist in the mediums of word craft, character development and plot presentation. Having read a number of his books previously, It was a joy to just listen and still be enthralled by the story.

When and how did the universe begin? Why are we here? What is the nature of reality? Is the apparent “grand design” of our universe evidence of a benevolent creator who set things in motion—or does science offer another explanation? In The Grand Design, Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow present the most illuminating scientific thinking about these and other abiding mysteries of the universe, in nontechnical language marked by brilliance and simplicity.

Complex Science/Philosophy Clearly Presented
Revisado: 09-03-12
If you could sum up The Grand Design in three words, what would they be?
Condensed -- Comprehensible -- Pithy
Who was your favorite character and why?
Although esoteric by their sheer complexity, both astrophysics, with its quarks and nutrinos, and contemplative philosophy are topics both enigmatic and yet intriguing. Hawking takes these seemingly contradictory disciplines and weaves a tapestry with them that is both logically formulated, definitively expressed and, most importantly, captures your attention. His mosaic is clearly understood in terms common to the lay person.
Have you listened to any of Steve West’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. Mr West's presentation is well enunciated with pleasant intonation and at a pace which permits the listener ample time to cogently process the data presented.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Although no exact moment is definable, yet the amalgamation (summation if you will) of these divergent disciplines was quite excellently presented. Hawking presents not only his scientific conclusions but, equally importantly, his philosophical perspectives as a result.
Any additional comments?
Best listened to two or three times with a month or more between listenings to process and appreciate the scope of the data presented as well as its application, if any, for the individual.
