Historia
For a quarter-century, from the end of Watergate to the aftermath of the Cold War, no Republican won the presidency without his help or ran the White House without his advice. James Addison Baker III was the indispensable man for four presidents because he understood better than anyone how to make Washington work at a time when America was shaping events around the world. The Man Who Ran Washington is a pause-resisting portrait of a power broker who influenced America's destiny for generations.

Will become a classic governance, history & political must read resource
Revisado: 10-04-20
As a lifelong amateur student of politics and history, I am compelled to attentively listen to this pleasant and insightful recount of events I contemporaneously followed in news accounts of the day.
Having been an undergraduate student of History and Political Science during the Reagan era, this book invokes in me a feeling of nostalgia as it triggers vivid and precise recall of the news events I experienced in real time.
My sense is that this publication will become a classic, must read resource applicable to study disciplines such as American History, Political Science, and Public Administration.

Stuart Stevens spent decades electing Republicans at every level, from presidents to senators to local officials. He knows the GOP as intimately as anyone in America, and in this new book he offers a devastating portrait of a party that has lost its moral and political compass. This is not a book about how Donald J. Trump hijacked the Republican Party and changed it into something else.

Two Thumbs up for "It Was All A Lie"

Really enjoying the belated confessions of truth about the downward evolution of the American political party system.
Very much appreciate throughout the book references to other books worthy of further reading.

Shane K. Bernard's Teche examines this legendary waterway of the American deep south. Bernard delves into the bayou's geologic formation as a vestige of the Mississippi and Red Rivers, its prehistoric Native American occupation, and its colonial settlement by French, Spanish, and eventually, Anglo-American pioneers. He surveys the coming of indigo, cotton, and sugar; steam-powered sugar mills, and riverboats; and the brutal institution of slavery. He also examines the impact of the Civil War on the Teche.

Teche: History of Louisiana’s Most Famous Bayou.
Super interesting story of the Teche. Confirms some of my own observations from studying my own Verret ancestors residing on Bayou Teche between Jeanerette and Franklin. Other references brings to mind memories I have of family stories retold to me, such as the Great 1927 Louisiana Flood.
By 1927, my grandparents, Edna and Fernest Verret were the primary residents of Louis Verret’s Bayou Teche tract of land. Their children in 1927 were Walter S. (1922); Howard Adam (1924; and Marian Mae (1926). My vague memory of a story told to me is that my grandmother, Edna Elizabeth, took a train to New Orleans with baby Marian to escape the flood.
I can’t swear to the accuracy of my memory far it seems counterintuitive that they would travel to New Orleans to escape the flood since the flood began at the Mississippi. But then again, it is possible New Orleans escaped the disaster if the source of flood waters was at the head waters of the Atchafayaya River at the Mississippi River far North of New Orleans.
My Bayou Teche Verret ancestry began about 1790 with the acquisition of Spanish Land Grants to brothers, Louis and Philippe Verret. They had twin tracts of land fronted on the east bank of the Bayou Teche down stream from Jeanerette.
As this book reveals, the Bayou Teche already was well inhabited prior to 1790.
I had no idea there was so much Civil War activity on the Bayou Teche.

Essential study in Ethical Leadership
Revisado: 11-19-19
Will become an essential text book for how NOT to lead or serve future Presidents and leaders of major institutions. It reverses the assumptions Anonymous made in his Op-Ed by concluding the staff is powerless to protect the country from the inside by “managing” Trump’s worst impulses.

Cities are birthplaces of civilization; centers of culture, trade, and progress; cauldrons of opportunity - and the home of 80 percent of the world's population by 2050. As the 21st century progresses, metropolitan areas will bear the brunt of global megatrends such as climate change, natural resource depletion, population growth, income inequality, mass migrations, and education and health disparities, among many others.

Eye opening recount of the public and private forces (sometime unintended, sometime conspiring secretly) to destroy urban cores

Eye opening recount of the public and private forces (sometime unintended, sometime conspiring secretly) to destroy urban cores.
Chapters 1-8 provides an enlightening historical review of the evolution of how urban planning and zoning trends, federal housing and transportation policies; private industrial manufacturers and financial institutions conspiratorial actions, combined over the 20th Century to undermine the economic health and sustainability of urban centers by systematically dismantling their essential functional systems, such as mixed income and use communities and public transit systems.

Couldn’t Agree More!
Revisado: 09-11-17
Your message is exactly right, but from perspective and based on listening to the reaction of hosts of your interviews regarding the book, I see no chance that your observations could move the Democratic Party. I think you are speaking to a brick wall.
I long ago removed my party identification because the messaging both sides subliminally told me I was not welcome. In my view, political parties are myopically focused winning the next election. It is well known that party strategy often is to prioritize keeping a hot button issue unresolved instead of working across the isle to find practical solution I order to use it to drive fund raising and the base voter to the polls next election.
Neither of the parties are concerned about the long term best interest of the nation as a whole. This is a fact of nature of modern mass media politics.
I do wonder however if your message could form the seed of a coalition of those like myself who are motivated by a broader range of factors in choosing a candidate. N

Historia
On June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court of the United Statesissued a pair of landmark decisions, striking down the Defense of Marriage Act and eliminating California's discriminatory Proposition 8, thereby reinstating the freedom to marry for gays and lesbians in California. Redeeming the Dream is the story of how David Boies and Theodore B. Olson - who argued against each other all the way to the Supreme Court in Bush v. Gore - joined forces after that titanic battle to forge the unique legal argument that would carry the day.

What did you love best about Redeeming the Dream?
Not only does it tell the back story of the California Prop 8 case but it provides insight by world class supreme court attorneys on the foundational strategy necessary to target propulsion to the U.S. Supreme Court. Seems to me as a recent law school graduate that this book is a must read for aspiring attorneys.
