Historia
Sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes deeply joyous, The House on Mango Street tells the story of Esperanza Cordero, whose neighborhood is one of harsh realities and harsh beauty. Esperanza doesn't want to belong, not to her rundown neighborhood, and not to the low expectations the world has for her. Esperanza's story is that of a young girl coming into her power, and inventing for herself what she will become.

Baby voice got annoying, no real story.
Revisado: 10-01-24
I really wanted to like this book. She used a young girls voice when reading but the metaphors and vocabulary of an adult looking back. I kept waiting for the story to begin but it was just more of a description of her life at that time and place.

Historia
Chava is a golem, a woman made of clay, who can hear the thoughts and longings of those around her and feels compelled by her nature to help them. Ahmad is a jinni, a restless creature of fire, once free to roam the desert but now imprisoned in the shape of a man. Fearing they’ll be exposed as monsters, these magical beings hide their true selves and try to pass as human - just two more immigrants in the bustling world of 1900s Manhattan. Brought together under calamitous circumstances, their lives are now entwined - but they’re not yet certain of what they mean to each other.

A stunning continuation of an amazing book
Revisado: 11-04-22
I was shocked to see this book come out. The Golem and the Djini was such a fantastic find that I bought on a whim. To see a second installment brought me such joy and it did not disappoint. The craft, the world, and the characters were just as deep and profound as in the first book.
This should be at the top of your TBR!!

Historia
Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited. Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

The best book yet!!
Revisado: 07-13-21
Intriguing and beguiling all the way to the final chapter. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters have been very endearing and I love how the characters have developed and grown, especially Olivia.

Historia
Ralph Elllison's Invisible Man is a monumental novel, one that can well be called an epic of modern American Negro life. It is a strange story, in which many extraordinary things happen, some of them shocking and brutal, some of them pitiful and touching—yet always with elements of comedy and irony and burlesque that appear in unexpected places. It is a book that has a great deal to say and which is destined to have a great deal said about it.

Be prepared....

This is not an easy listen. It is one that makes you think and think deeply about race and the way that we view it.
I got this for a class thinking I could get it done in a week and it was tough.
Beautifully done and well written prose that sings like an orator in my ears. Deeply thoughtful, provoking and symbolic.
The performance was phenomenal and it really helped me visualize what was happening.

The depth of characters is astounding and well written, the plot twists and turns beautifully and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I can’t wait to read more!
The narrator is extraordinarily talented and really gives such a great work of prose wings.
