Historia
There's a serial killer targeting the streets of Newcastle, seemingly picking his victims at random but subjecting them all to the same torturous end. When the Chief Inspector on the case goes missing, it falls on DCI Ryan to track down the man who is brutally murdering women and goading the police to 'catch me if you can'. As everyone becomes a suspect, Ryan and his team get drawn further and further into the case, but for Ryan the nightmare gets closer to home than he could ever have imagined.

Excellent adaptation for audio
Revisado: 10-26-24
The cast for this adaptation were excellent as was diction and sound quality. Plot a touch unrealistic and a few loose ends but over all a very good listen!

Historia
Slamming the door on the hellscape of 1980s Belfast, Detective Inspector Sean Duffy hopes that the 1990s are going to be better for him and the people of Northern Ireland. As a Catholic cop in the mainly Protestant RUC he still has a target on his back, and with a steady girlfriend and a child the stakes couldn’t be higher. After handling a mercurial triple agent and surviving the riots and bombings and assassination attempts, all Duffy wants to do now is live. But in his final days in charge of Carrickfergus CID, a missing persons report captures his attention.

Outstanding and atmospheric
Revisado: 10-12-23
I have enjoyed all Mckinty’s books but especially the Duffy series. The characters, the plotting and the ability to bring to life the complexities of Northern Ireland during the Troubles is a great achievement, especially for one whose adult life has largely coincided with the same period.
Doyle’s reading and characterisation is also absolutely enthralling and brings the voices of Ireland to life.
Mr McKinty, please continue the series; I’m sure Sean Duffy will not just be filing parking tickets whilst a part timer in the RUC.
One small niggle was the Jone’s confession as to his entrapment in Moscow; he was a diplomat and therefore immune from prosecution, so this weakens the veracity of the lever the KGB apparently used to recruit him.
Disgrace and dismissal from the foreign service yes but no sentence in a Soviet gulag.

Thorough convincing investigation
Revisado: 10-23-22
An excellent example of rigorous investigation of facts to explode erroneous conspiracy theories: shame more Americans don’t apply this type of analysis to the myriad bizarre right wing conspiracies that circulate so widely in that gullible population

Historia
In these 34 intriguing episodes, leading historian Christopher Andrew rewrites history, considering what might have transpired if pivotal events had turned out differently. By altering a single, plausible fact, he explores alternative futures where the Spanish Armada landed on English soil, Pontius Pilate freed Jesus, the Nazis occupied Britain and many more.

These programmes discuss a wide range of historical counterfactuals. Criticisms of style and language used in the interviews are misplaced. Readers should appreciate context and mores at that time and not impose today’s politically correct terminology upon contributors who would not have known them, never mind accepted them.
The substance of the programmes remain relevant despite more recent attempts to write alternative histories.
Listen and enjoy
