Historia
From New York Times best-selling author Sam Kean come more incredible stories of science, history, language, and music, as told by our own DNA. There are genes to explain crazy cat ladies, why other people have no fingerprints, and why some people survive nuclear bombs. Genes illuminate everything from JFK's bronze skin (it wasn't a tan) to Einstein's genius. They prove that Neanderthals and humans bred thousands of years more recently than any of us would feel comfortable thinking.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 07-09-16
While this was still an interesting read, I didn't enjoy it as much as the "Disappearing Spoon." There was too much about Neanderthals and evolution. I wanted to hear more about what makes people what they are and real life examples from modern history.

Historia
Reporter Sam Kean reveals the periodic table as it’s never been seen before. Not only is it one of man's crowning scientific achievements, it's also a treasure trove of stories of passion, adventure, betrayal, and obsession. The infectious tales and astounding details in The Disappearing Spoon follow carbon, neon, silicon, and gold as they play out their parts in human history, finance, mythology, war, the arts, poison, and the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.

I'm not a scientist, but I loved this book. Sam Keen is a great writer, and delves into fascinating tidbits about the history of the periodic table that you won't hear anywhere else.

Historia
When 22-year-old Jennifer Worth, from a comfortable middle-class upbringing, went to work as a midwife in the poorest section of postwar London, she not only delivered hundreds of babies and touched many lives, she also became the neighborhood's most vivid chronicler. Call the Midwife: Farewell to the East End is the last book in Worth's memoir trilogy, which the Times Literary Supplement described as "powerful stories with sweet charm and controlled outrage" in the face of dire circumstances.

Refreshing
Revisado: 07-09-16
This book was a satisfying conclusion to the series. I loved learning more about the lives of the nurses and sisters, who have become like my friends after listening to the books. Entertaining and uplifting.

Historia
When twenty-two-year-old Jennifer Worth, from a comfortable middle-class upbringing, went to work as a midwife in the direst section of postwar London, she not only delivered hundreds of babies and touched many lives, she also became the neighborhood';s most vivid chronicler. Woven into the ongoing tales of her life in the East End are the true stories of the people Worth met who grew up in the dreaded workhouse, a Dickensian institution that limped on into the middle of the twentieth century.

Depressing
Revisado: 07-09-16
I loved the first book in this series, but this one was difficult to get through. The stories were depressing. The depiction of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse of one little girl was disturbing, and I would not recommend this book for someone dealing with PTSD from abuse in their childhood. Also, much of the story was reconstructed from what Jennifer Worth had heard from other people and not the day-to-day stories of the first book. I'm sure much of it was conjecture, not actual memor.

Historia
At the age of 22, Jennifer Worth left her comfortable home to move into a convent and become a midwife in postwar London’s East End slums. The colorful characters she met while delivering babies all over London - from the plucky, warm-hearted nuns with whom she lived to the woman with 24 children who couldn't speak English to the prostitutes and dockers of the city’s seedier side - illuminate a fascinating time in history.

Better than the TV series
Revisado: 07-09-16
If you enjoy the TV series, "Call the MIdwife," then this book is for you. It goes into detail on the characters and stories introduced in the series. Delightful.
