We need The Foundation now!
Revisado: 08-18-20
This book may have been written in 2007, but it gave me chills at the way it parallels today's Orwellian politics. The more I got into the social story, the less I was concerned with the love story. The big disappointment was the narration. There was no distinction between the characters' voices. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Nonstop listening
Revisado: 12-09-19
I listened to the entire recording in one sitting! I was quickly pulled into the storyline and held fast by the twists and turns through to the end. The characters were so believable that I wanted to shake each one at least once. I found myself telling them what to do: open your mouth, get out of there, don't stay there alone! I loved the perfect surprise ending. And I broke out in a laugh when I discovered Alicia's parent had traveled to Belle Fourche from Sioux Falls-my hometown. Narration by Mr. Bennett was well- modulated. He has a talent for voices of both genders and characters of varying ages. It made for an enjoyable experience.

Romance clashes with politics.
Revisado: 07-23-19
I enjoy Scottish love stories, and I love Irish love stories, but this is the first Scottish and Irish love story I have encountered. Kier the Scot and Anwen, the Irish king's daughter, meet when Kier and his father are charged with transporting the king's daughter to a relative in Scotland while the king attempts to avoid a marriage contract to wed Anwen to the English king's relative. As fate would have it, the couple fall in love. And misunderstandings lead to a flight and a pursuit. Then there was real trouble! I took a couple chapters of listening to develop an interest in the story, because I usually don't read Jacobean period pieces. But it is a superb love story with fully developed characters, so I soon became hooked and was happy to lose sleep. Anwen was a typical young woman in love, but at least once I thought she could do with a spanking. Her father was infuriating, playing the distant parent willing to sacrifice his daughter for political harmony. Kier was a bibliophile alpha who wanted to serve his clan, but not in the way his father, the laird, insisted. My favorite lesser character was Kier's grandfather, who kept insisting all would turn out right. And Anwen's fiance is the guy you love to hate! Put them all together, shake-don't stir, and you get a great eight hours of listening pleasure. And the smooth, sensual Scottish voice of Andrew McDermott is an unexpected treat! I was intrigued by his ability to give voice to so many different characters so smoothly that I suddenly realized that one person was narrating. I voluntarily listened to a copy of this audiobook and the views expressed are my honest opinion.

"Come on. It'll be fun."
Revisado: 06-17-19
Whitney and Drew are still irresistible to each other twelve years after the annulment of their two-day teenage marriage. Of course, they won't admit it. And Heaven forbid they would be honest with each other, holding nothing back. Then they really mess up when they assume they know each other's minds and hearts. It will take a while to clear the tracks and get the True Love Express back on track.
This is a story you'll want to grab hold of and snuggle with. Drew is a dreamer, a techie who thinks he can learn to be a farmer by reading manuals. Whitney wants to switch from writing articles to running a camp for children of soldiers lost in combat. Both have goals and challenges. Whitney's godson, Kirby, and her friend Cassie's son, Jack, add a light touch and, at the same time, demonstrate the need for the camp. There's also an "Oh no!" moment that I took for a huge speed bump.
I voluntarily listened to an audio copy of this book and the views expressed are my honest opinions. I really enjoy Jim Cooper's narration, especially of children's and senior's voices. Each is distinct to the character. But every time I listened, I fell asleep in a different place and wasn't sure what I had missed. So, I bought the Kindle edition! Either way, you will enjoy it as I did,

Trying not to love ruins a marriage of convenience
Revisado: 05-26-19
I listened to this story twice and came to the same conclusion both times. I really liked it! It was witty, passionate, and often frustrating. Terra and Cam thought they were solving each other's problems by marrying, but only compounded them. The children benefited initially. Terra and Cam rested easier initially. But assumptions and insecurities did them in. Terra had her secret; she was afraid to say the "L" word first and harbored insecurities stemming from her comparing herself to Cam's first wife. Cam was gun-shy, because his ex had suddenly walked out on him and the kids. Both Terra and Cam had good parenting skills, but I was struck by the children being almost too well-behaved. And Cam's ex-wife was a real piece of work. I quite enjoyed the narrator. He did not overplay Terra's part, but I had no problem identifying the different speakers. I appreciated that he didn't give Terra a high voice; that doesn't happen with us taller, less than willowy ladies. And the children's voices were appropriate. I look forward to another book in this series. I voluntarily listened to an audio copy of this book and the views expressed are my honest opinions.

Past life, present solution
Revisado: 07-17-18
I read this book as part of The Marshalls Boxed Set, then listened to the audiobook recently. Josh Marshall is a successful actor who rescues a runaway being accosted on a dark highway. A chivalrous gentleman, he convinces her to trust him enough to allow him to give her a ride to a safe venue. He soon recognizes Elena to be a kindred soul to his sister-in-law, who had been stalked and tortured.
I liked the slow development of trust, leading to friendship, then love. The mix of a previous life experiences with the present was a plus. The suspense was well written. What I did not enjoy was the stupid dangerous choices Elena insisted upon making, sure that she knew best how to handle the situation. It's hard to believe an abused woman would make such rash emotional decisions which could obviously set her back in the hell she had just escaped. Lucky for her, Josh was more patient than I am.
You will enjoy any and all of Ms. Brashear's Texas Heroes. And check out the audiobook, too! Mr. Dove does an excellent performance of all characters with a pleasant reading voice. His portrayal of the suspense is well-modulated, not overplayed.

Not recommended for a reader who has been stalked
Revisado: 06-18-18
Quinn Marshall is an ex-cop who has a gift he doesn't want: prophetic dreams. Lorie Chandler is a widowed mother who doesn't know she needs Quinn's gift to protect herself and her son. Quinn resists his supernatural ability, insisting that he operate in the realm of "reality." Lorie's intention is to handle everything herself, even though she is in over her head. The only thing that gives her a reason to cooperate with Quinn is her love for her son.
The plot was very good, intense, suspenseful. Quinn and Lorie both needed a smack upside their heads: Lorie for thinking she had to face her stalker to protect her son and Quinn; Quinn for not accepting his gift and learning to use it before it was almost too late. Lorie's son, Grant, and Quinn's great aunt,Tia Consuela soften the sharp edges. Josh will have his own book.
As I noted in the headline, this is probably not a read for someone who has been stalked. I haven't, but I really didn't listen carefully the second time because of the feelings I had during the first listening. Readers of Nora Roberts books will enjoy Texas Refuge.
Mr. Dove has a pleasant voice that lends itself to both sexes, all ages. He does amp up the tension between the characters. Ms. Brashear continues to produce excellent reading and listening experiences.

Past revenge to future love
Revisado: 04-26-18
Where does Texas Bad Boy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Texas Bad Boy is my favorite of The Gallaghers of Sweetwater series. It takes two star-crossed teenagers from their tragic past to the future fraught with misunderstanding, mixed with desire and love. This book gathers all the pieces of Lacy's and Devon's past to create a cohesive future, while finishing the series with the promise of happily ever after.
What other book might you compare Texas Bad Boy to and why?
Texas Bad Boy is perfect for listeners who have enjoyed Carolyn Brown's Happy Texas, Lucky Penny Ranch, and Burnt Boot,Texas series. Also of like mixed emotions are the Cupid, Texas and Twilight, Texas series. All combine a resolution of pain with the promise of joy in the morning.
Which character – as performed by Eric G. Dove – was your favorite?
Lacy was my favorite character as performed by Mr. Dove. He has a voice that lends itself equally to either gender.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was especially touched by the scene in which Lacy meets the Gallaghers and find total acceptance for who she is-their sister. For someone so lost at this point, it was a healing point for Lacy. And the fact that Devon was willing to do all he could to facilitate this even though he stood to lose her touched me.
Any additional comments?
I received a copy of the audiobook from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review; all conclusions are my own.

Would you listen to Texas Lonely again? Why?
I definitely plan to listen to Texas Lonely again. I enjoyed the emotional wordplay between Perrie and Mitch, and the sexual tension added hype.
What about Eric G. Dove’s performance did you like?
Mr. Dove has a pleasant, mellow voice that lends itself to all characters and situations.

Revisado: 03-12-18
Even though I purchased this book in digital format almost four years ago, I did remember the plot and had enjoyed it. That being said, I listened to the audiobook twice and my appreciation of Ms. Brashear's characters has increased greatly. What I saw as a routine cowboy romance four years ago expanded to two people trying to trust each other while discovering they had not known the truth of the men they knew as their fathers. What I liked: Complex characters; strong, often humorous secondary characters; witty conversations; poignant revelations. Mr. Dove narrates with a mellow tone and presents each character with his/her own special voice. Listening to the audiobook illuminated what I had missed when I read the book previously. I received a copy of this audiobook from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I received no other compensation.
