I have read this book before, but this audiobook made me love it so much more. It was well delivered, and excellently paced. Will be listening again over and over.

Gabby Ashford has just survived an attempt on her life. Detectives have connected her story to two other cases in the area: Professional women drugged at a bar, brought to their homes, and drowned in their bathtubs. Gabby, who miraculously woke up in her own bathtub unharmed, could be the key to finding a serial killer on the loose - but she has no memory of the attack. Gabby admits herself to a high-end rehabilitation center to recover, and to seek the help of a psychiatrist renowned for his work with memory recovery.

Kinda saw it coming
Revisado: 03-14-24
Interesting narration, but I was not very impressed with the direction of the story. Kind of disappointed because it had so much potential, but it felt like it didn’t go where it needed to go, or as far as it needed to go. Good listen for like a plane ride, but “could be better” is all that comes to mind.

Actually in shambles
Revisado: 03-14-24
This book is an experience. The plot once you get down to it is simple, but truly the journey is what makes this story.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I hopped into this - it is not what I usually read, but wanted to give it a chance, and I am so glad I did because I was hooked from the beginning. The author is clearly aware of his character’s imperfect morals, their unique situation as thespians in a weird cult-like school, and the snobby-ness of it all, so it comes accross as authentic in the strangest way possible. I felt every line, every decision the characters made, deep in my soul. The world building is absolutely incredible and the setting of the tone in this book is too. It tiptoes that line of being genuine while also dealing with characters literally reciting Shakespeare so beautifully.
I am trying to avoid spoilers, but let’s just say I was pleased with how subtle and natural the “will-they-won’t-they” situation was. I was on the edge of my seat thinking I was crazy for feeling a chemistry, so I would pause and rewind like “I couldn’t have heard that right…” but alas, I was correct, the chemistry once you see it you can’t unsee it, and I was pleasantly surprised. Which somehow it makes it all hurt so much more.
There, intentionally vague, but hopefully those who get it will get it.
I will say, some of that can be attributed to the performance of this audiobook. The emotion, punctuation, and delivery is exactly what was needed for this type of text which is saturated with Shakespeare performances. There is layers and depth to the narration, each voice very unique and never falling flat or feeling like a caricature, which can be difficult for some narrators when they try to speak for characters of the opposite sex.
Tragic, beautiful, and so worth the journey. Absolutely one of my favorite books I’ve read/listened to in the past year!!

Absolutely heart wrenching but so, so good
Revisado: 11-10-23
Holy moly. I don’t know why I am on a tragedy binge recently but this back to back with Song of Achilles has to be the saddest combo I’ve ever experienced. It’s another one of those stories that although you “know” how it ends, you are not only on the edge of your seat the entire time wondering how it will get to the end, but you’re also rooting for it to somehow change. I wanted to reach in and somehow change the story, but alas. Beautiful, deeply moving, and just all around a wonderful story. I literally laughed, cried, and gasped so many times. Many tears were shed. 5 stars all around.

Historia
As the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo has been through so much, from the premature deaths of his mother and sister, to being outed against his will, to losing his friend Jason during the trials of Apollo. But there is a ray of sunshine in his life—literally: his boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo. Together the two demigods can overcome any obstacle or foe. At least, that's been the case so far . . . Now Nico is being plagued by a voice calling out to him from Tartarus, the lowest part of the Underworld.

Cried more than once
Revisado: 09-19-23
This book made me cry, scream, laugh, and just set me on a whole rollercoaster of emotions. Rick Riordan’s books never cease to amaze me with how it can be both lighthearted and yet thought provoking at the same time, they’re not just entertaining but also super engaging, and deeply emotional. The subject of PTSD and learning to live with trauma and the subsequent results from it, of coping with grief and deep tragic loss, was so fascinating and it was something that definitely needed to be touched upon in a series so full of tragedy. It was grounding for the story, in a way. I very much enjoyed it and this is going to be definitely one of my favorite books of this year.
While some of the performance by the reader definitely took me out of the immersion sometimes, he did an excellent job telling the story and getting accross the emotional beats down. Some parts also made me laugh such as the cat sounds. I do wish he had made more distinct voices for each of the characters, though. But I am being rather picky. I had an excellent time with this book and probably won’t stop talking about it for weeks now.
