Historia
In 1994, Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were brutally murdered at her home in Brentwood, California. O. J. Simpson was tried for the crime, but was ultimately found not guilty of criminal charges. The victims' families brought civil cases against Simpson, in which he was found liable for willfully and wrongfully causing the deaths of Ron and Nicole by committing battery with malice and oppression. The Goldman family views this book as Simpson's confession.

Excellent and insightful
Revisado: 12-19-20
Who knew that a chance meeting between an ex NFL football player and a pretty waitress in a Lake Arrowhead restaurant could lead to so much drama. One thing is for sure: Nicole knew all about OJ's temper before she married him, even before they were engaged. Why would she stay? She must have loved the lifestyle that 6-7 figure incomes provide.

Historia
With dramatic flair, Jeff Guinn delivers the definitive portrait of Bonnie and Clyde. These media-savvy outlaws appealed to America's Depression-era hunger for swashbuckling characters. Glowing radio and newspaper reports transformed these "public enemies" into celebrities - much like the cinema gangsters of the time.

Hamer is pronounced Hammer, coupe is pronounced cooPay. Where did they find this nasally-voiced man? Nevertheless, any B&C aficionados will love all the facts and details given. Never boring.

Historia
Jermaine Jackson—older than Michael by four years—offers a keenly observed and surprisingly candid memoir tracing Michael’s life starting with their shared childhood and extending through the Jackson 5 years, Michael’s phenomenal solo career, his loves, his suffering, and his tragic end which sparked worldwide grief. It is a sophisticated, no-holds-barred examination of the man, aimed at fostering a true and final understanding of who he was, why he was, and what shaped him.

Not credible
Revisado: 08-07-20
Narrator sounds like he should be doing horror or suspense. Jermaine is not credible. He makes statements like "many times I tried to see my brother at Neverland but those people wouldn't let me in". Those people were acting on your brother's orders. It was Michael who didn't want to see you. Jermaine presents a false version of events, as usual, throughout the book. The version that paints himself in the best light, as a loving brother who just wanted the best for Michael. In truth, Jermaine was resentful of Michael's success and thought it should of been himself that blew up.

Historia
In the wake of the controversial two-part documentary Leaving Neverland, which told the stories of two young boys who were befriended by the singer and have claimed they suffered years of agonizing abuse, Dylan Howard set out to investigate Jackson’s life and death in unprecedented depth, to determine - as one lawyer suggested - that the pop star ran “the most sophisticated child sexual abuse procurement and facilitation operation the world has known.”

New insights
Revisado: 07-12-20
After reading Dieter Wiesner's new book, I wasn't expecting much here. I worried Michael Jackson's story was all played out. I was wrong. I've read over a dozen Michael Jackson books. I am constantly fascinated by him and love new insights. This book is loaded with them (ever hear George the Ghost mentioned anywhere? Me either). It is as if the author sourced material and witnesses other authors chose to ignore. The book compliments the work of other authors and adds more understanding to the complex and troubled superstar. Health issues, financial issues, legal troubles, bad behavior; nothing is left out.

Historia
In Elvis Presley: A Southern Life, one of the most admired Southern historians of our time takes on one of the greatest cultural icons of all time. The result is a masterpiece: a vivid, gripping biography, set against the rich backdrop of Southern society - indeed, American society - in the second half of the 20th century.

Toxic Superstar
Revisado: 04-20-17
Would you listen to Elvis Presley: A Southern Life again? Why?
Yes. The book gets to the overall truths about Elvis' life and career, choices, women, family/friends, decline and death. Occasionally the author may get a fact wrong but that doesn't negate what the book does; give a critical analysis of the phenomenon that was Elvis. Did you ever think it was strange, even perverted, that Elvis dated 14 year old girls-even when he was in his 20's? Did you ever think it was weird Pricilla came to live at Graceland after Elvis begged and pleaded with her parents to allow it, only to ignore Pricilla once she was here? Did you ever question why a man would spend $100,000 at a time on cars for complete strangers? This book digs down into the psyche of a deeply flawed and troubled rock star. It looks into the dark crevices and examines rather than ignore them. This is a book for all Elvis fans, especially the ones who love him unconditionally. It's time they really got to know their hero.
What other book might you compare Elvis Presley: A Southern Life to and why?
Careless Love by Peter Guralnick is the best Elvis bio. This book is an excellent companion book to it. Guralnick deals with facts, well researched. This book deals with truth.
Have you listened to any of Nick Sullivan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. This is the first.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Many. The sexual hysteria? Was it caused by Elvis or by the female fans themselves, as the author suggests? The statutory rape that was going on. (An underage girl cannot give consent). The vast number of women Elvis devoured and how many were underage, yet no one seems to notice. The excess. The blind devotion of friends which turned false in time. It's sad, brilliantly intriguing and real.
Any additional comments?
I was hooked the first minute of the foreword. This was after reading Careless Love, twice! I think you'll be enlightened by this treatment. Elvis didn't walk on water. In fact, he would sink faster than most.

Historia
Elvis Presley is a giant figure in American popular culture, a man whose talent and fame were matched only by his later excesses and tragic end. A godlike entity in the history of rock and roll, this twentieth-century icon with a dazzling voice blended gospel and rhythm and blues with country to create a completely new kind of music and new way of expressing male sexuality, which blew the doors off a staid and repressed 1950s America. In Being Elvis, veteran rock journalist Ray Connolly takes a fresh look at the career of the world's most loved singer.

Not my first choice for Elvis biography
Revisado: 04-15-17
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, but only after reading Careless Love by Guralnick. I wouldn't spend a credit otherwise.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
There is some new info here but a lot is just regurgitated. Incorrect info is repeated from other sources such as the meaning of the letter G in Circle G Ranch and Gladys, E's Mother, age at death.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Jonathan Yen?
No. The man reads in 30 second sound bites. It was like listening to a 30 min travel show voice over. I didn't enjoy his style at all.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Of course! Any documentary on Elvis is appreciated.
Any additional comments?
The author didn't do much research. Let's be honest, this is a lazy work. This is especially true since I had just listened to Careless Love. Now that's a serious biographer! Mr. Connolly is simply cashing in on his short acquaintance with Elvis and Colonel Parker.
