From the author of the beloved 30 Lessons for Living, Karl Pillemer's 30 Lessons for Living first became a hit and then became a classic. Readers loved the sage advice and great stories from extraordinary older Americans who shared what they wish they had known when they were starting out. Now, Pillemer returns with lessons on one of the most talked-about parts of that book - love, relationships, and marriage.
Based on the most detailed survey of long married people ever conducted, 30 Lessons for Loving shows the way to lifelong, fulfilling relationships. The author, an internationally renowned gerontologist at Cornell University, offers sage advice from the oldest and wisest Americans on everything from finding a partner, to deciding to commit, to growing old together. Along the way, the book answers questions like these: How do you know if the person you love is the right one? What are the secrets for improving communication and reducing conflict? What gets you through the major stresses of marriage, such as child-rearing, work, money issues, and inlaws?
From interviews with 700 elders, 30 Lessons for Loving offers unique wisdom that will enrich anyone's relationship life, from people searching for the right partner to those working to keep the spark alive after decades together. Filled with great stories, wise observations, and useful advice, 30 Lessons for Loving is destined to become another classic.

The hubby and I listened to the other book on Life as well. Both have great examples and advice. Although I have to say some things CAN change with therapy/counciling and not just dump someone. No one is perfect. But yes they have to WANT to change. And when they say they are who they are, believe them. And make sure you are your own whole person. And not rely on someone else to make you whole.
Another thing I didn't agree on in both books was that elders knew more than younger people. Some kids have to grow up faster than others at times, and well, that can crush you. Parents fall on hard times, that affects the kids. Kids can totally tell what's going on. They're smarter than you think!
And I have known some adults who will NEVER grow up. They have no thoughts in their heads. They lack empathy. I've seen kids grow into adults that probably have never had a care in the world. And I hope they don't have something awful happen to wake them up. But I feel bad too that they seem to just sleep through life.
So listen to people of all ages, I'd say. You don't know what people have been through- and you can decide for yourself whether you use it or not.
Mostly Great!

I had not read the first book by the author also giving the best Elder/Expert advice on living but now I am eager to read that one too.
